10 Years of Unexplained Debit Orders from Matrix (MiX Telematics) – ±R60,000 Taken With No Clear Account Details

My name is Robert Mc Lennan, and I am posting this after exhausting every possible attempt to resolve the matter privately with Matrix from MiX Telematics.

For more than 10 years, a debit order of R554.52 has been deducted from my bank account every month under the reference MATRIX ***.

Over that period, this amounts to approximately R60,000.

The problem is simple: I have repeatedly asked Matrix from MiX Telematics to tell me what vehicle this tracking contract relates to, and no one has been able to provide that information.

The last time I knowingly had a vehicle tracking contract was around 2014–2015, when I owned an Audi that was later traded in.

Since then, I have numerous emails, phone calls, and WhatsApp records where I attempted to query or cancel this debit order.

Despite this:

I was never provided with the vehicle details linked to the account

I received virtually no communication from Matrix from MiX Telematics over the past decade

The debit order continued every month without interruption

Matrix from MiX Telematics has now responded by stating that the contract was never formally cancelled.

However, I dispute this and have records of cancellation requests and contact attempts.

What is even more concerning is that no one at the company has been able to confirm the most basic information: what vehicle this service relates to.

I also approached my bank, RMB Private Bank, on numerous occasions to stop the debit order. Their response was as follows:

“Hi Robert I trust this email finds you well. Kindly note that the bank can only block a debit order using references. Please see how the references change each month therefore we will be unable to block it. You will need to please liaise with Matrix and request them to please stop debiting your account.”

In other words, the debit reference changes each month, making it impossible for the bank to block the debit order.

At this stage I have formally requested from Matrix from MiX Telematics:

Immediate cancellation of the debit order

Full account statements for the past 10 years

The vehicle details and registration number linked to the account

A full investigation into the charges and possible refund

Despite countless emails and requests, I have received no response to these requests.

Given the scale of the amount involved and the lack of transparency, this matter is now under legal review.

If this is not resolved urgently, I will proceed with:

Opening a formal ***** case

Filing complaints with the National Consumer Commission

Escalating the matter through legal channels and consumer platforms

All I am asking for is transparency, documentation, and accountability for charges that have continued for more than a decade.

Reviewer Update
Given that debit orders have continued for more than a decade without the ability to verify the associated vehicle or service, I am now also reviewing whether this matter should be referred to the National Consumer Commission, the National Consumer Tribunal, and the Banking Ombudsman for investigation.
