Worst Customer Service You Could Imagine
The gist of this is that I wouldn’t purchase so much as a bottle of water from them and that a car is something I would certainly not recommend that you do. I made a cash payment for my car and have since regretted it dearly so if you absolutely must then please be aware that;
When it comes to admin, be prepared to do it yourself. For me, they did the transfer of ownership (If they don’t do it within 21 days then the sale is invalid so it makes sense that they did that) but I had to get my own car dekra certified and register a license disc for myself, despite having paid them thousands to do it. After a fruitless back and fourth with the sales person, I eventually had to pay for an attorney to attain the vehicle ownership documents in order to do this.
When it comes to quality, the high quality standards and pre-delivery inspections they promise are an utter lie. My suggestion is that you insist on a test drive and a personal inspection before you commit to anything, no matter the promised they make and assurances they offer. It’s a painful experience to have to spend additional money on the replacement of things like the worn out tires, brake discs and brake pads which your car may come with, trust me on this.
When it comes to the vehicle delivery, be prepared to go to the dealership to pick up the car yourself. Their promise that the car will be delivered but it’s a sham. In my case, I had to collect the car myself because of constant promises of delivery on a specific date but that never happening. I still have to go to the dealership to collect the physical car ownership document myself as things stand (assuming they don’t misplace it after this post. Wouldn’t surprise me at all to be honest)
When it comes to customer service in general, be prepared to write plenty of follow up emails that won’t be answered and often be aggravated because of constantly making calls throughout the day which don’t get answered or even returned.
My disdain of Mit Mak motors is not only due to the absolutely horrid experience I’ve detailed above. My interactions were not only limited to the sales person, Fentse. They were also with a few other Mit Mak representatives including his manager, Francois, but was I left without resolutions and so directionless that I’ve since been too defeated to even try calling them. It took me over a year to even write about my experience on this platform. I was only provoked into doing so because about 2 weeks ago, on the anniversary of the sale, I was contacted by the sales person (unprovoked) offering a most insincere apology and excuses for my experience along with the promise that I’d be refunded for my expenses on tires (The fact that I paid them about R5500 for admin which I ended up doing myself and that they gave me a car with worn out tyres, brake pads and brake discs was to be ignored) and of course, that never happened. When I followed up with the sales person, he said that the payment was already made. It wasn’t. It was as though they realised that I’ve made peace with the horrible ordeal and exploitation I went through and decided to move on from then decided to go out of their way disappoint me one last time for good measure.
In retrospect, I suspect that he just wanted me to send him evidence of all of the invoices I settled myself and things like roadworthy certification and the purchase of new tires so he could use them as proof to his bosses of having done so himself.
In conclusion, if paying well above market value for a car that you’ll have to spend even more money on refurbishing and paying exorbitant admin fees for diligence you’ll eventually have to do yourself while constantly being treated like a fool by your sales person is something you have an appetite for then by all means, buy from them, otherwise then please take my experience as a clear warning to stay as far away from Mit Mak Motors as possible!
