Unprofessional/disrespectful/****s
I am writing to formally lodge a complaint regarding the extremely unprofessional manner in which my recent rental enquiry and communication with your letting department were handled.
I made an enquiry regarding a specific apartment and was informed by your staff that the unit was available. Based on this information, I proceeded to complete and submit the required application and supporting documentation. I also had to make time during my working hours to complete the application because I was under the impression that the property was genuinely available and that my application was being considered.
When I subsequently contacted your letting department for feedback, I was informed that the unit had already been taken for some time.
I understand that properties can be taken quickly and that circumstances may change. However, what I find unacceptable is being given information that the unit was available, investing my time in completing an application and submitting sensitive documentation, only to later be told that the property was no longer available.
When I raised my concern with the woman I spoke to on the telephone, I was simply trying to explain how the situation made me feel and why I believed I had been misled. Instead of acknowledging my frustration or explaining what had happened, I was told, “We never **** to you,” and was accused of intimidating her simply because I was questioning why I had initially been told the property was available.
At no point was I threatening or intimidating her. I was expressing my frustration and asking for an explanation. I found it particularly inappropriate that she ultimately stated that whatever she was saying was right and proceeded to terminate the call by hanging up on me.
Hanging up on a client who is raising a legitimate complaint is completely unacceptable and demonstrates a serious lack of professionalism and customer service.
I am also concerned about the apparent lack of accountability within the letting department. Staff should be able to provide their names, communicate respectfully with prospective tenants, acknowledge mistakes or misunderstandings, and deal with complaints professionally rather than becoming defensive and terminating calls.
As a prospective tenant, I deserve to be treated with dignity and respect. My time is valuable, and I should not have to take time away from my work, complete an application and provide documentation based on information that turns out not to be accurate, only to then be spoken to dismissively when I raise my concerns.
I hope MidCity takes this complaint seriously. I am not complaining simply because I was unsuccessful in securing a property. I am complaining about the way I was treated and the manner in which the entire process was handled.
I expect a professional response from management and not another dismissive interaction.
