No respect for other businesses

Mica Graaff-Reinet decided to put their stores opposite our guesthouse. Their premise looks terrible and the big trucks wake my guests early in the morning. The trucks make a huge noise because the truck drivers leave the engines on - the rooms are right opposite the entrance to their gate. The trucks are destroying my side of the pavement. The weight of the trucks is damaging my buildings since the road was never meant to be used by big trucks. Furthermore our buildings are very old since Graaff-Reinet is the fourth oldest town in South Africa. I have complained but their attitude stinks. Today they have informed me that they will make no compromises to accommodate my business. I will share my experience as widely as possible and will never purchase anything from Mica again.

Graaff-Reinet Mica, owned by Mr Johan van Jaarsveld of Montego Pet Nutrition with the e-mail address ********** responded to my complaint by sending me a letter through his and/or Montego's attorney, Mr Derek Light. In the letter he claims that the business site has always been utilised as a business site. This is a half truth since Pioneer Foods owned the property many years ago but their property never looked like a junk yard and my guests could not see through the trellises into their property. The trucks also never used the street as a parking area or caused my guests to lose sleep. In the letter the attorney writes "You are requested to remove the post from the said site and to not repeat your conduct". To me, a sole owner of a small business, this letter looks like a big multi-million company bullying a small business. After all, according to Montego's website Mr Johan van Jaarsveld is the managing director of Montego Pet Nutrition and, stated on the letter I received from Mica, he is the owner of Graaff-Reinet Mica.
