Death/Funeral Benefits

Good Day,

When my uncle had passed on we went to the MIBFA offices in Johannesburg. When we enquired what will be needed to process the claim as my aunt is the beneficiary. We were told to carry on with the funeral once done we must submit all the expenses for the funeral and they will be refunded. On the 8th of July 2015, my aunt received a sick payment of R5000.

On the 13th July 2015 I have called the called their call centre to find out what is the status re the expense claim. I was told that the slips were not processed yet. I was advised to make a follow up call a week later of which I did, and I was told that there is no such thing as submitting the expense slips for the funeral and be paid back. They only payout R15000 towards the funeral. When we made follow ups with the sick department we were told the payout is only R5000.

What I would like to understand why did the office in Johannesburg advise us that we must submit the slips and we will be refunded all the expense incurred for the funeral, is this how you take people for a ride? When I requested my uncles benefit statement no one knows where it is.

The call centre is also ***********.

Regards,
Floyd
