NEVER USE MGC AND STAY AWAY FROM MARC
This review is shared because the experience involved not only poor workmanship and delays, but also a serious abuse of trust. We allowed the contractor and workers onto our property on the understanding that our home, water supply, time, and instructions would be respected. Instead, the work was repeatedly rushed, excuses were given, and issues that should have been treated as urgent were ignored or left for us to deal with later. I do not even want to give them one star. I have recently seen other complaints about this company and want to share our experience, even though it happened two or more years ago. In my experience, there were broken promises, poor workmanship, repeated disregard for our instructions, and a failure to treat urgent issues with the seriousness they deserved. Workmanship and property issues Our veranda was a patch job. Cracks were visible, it appeared as if lime had seeped through from the cement used for the quick patch, and the paint peeled. They reduced the water in our 15kl tanks to a quarter, despite me repeatedly asking them not to run the tap or hosepipe as if there was no limit. I do not know how many times I heard our pump running, only to look out the window and see taps running wide open, hosepipes being used to wash brushes, and even the basin in my back toilet being used. A furrow formed down the north-west side of the house because of this. When I asked one of the workers why he was washing his paint brush in my basin after I had specifically asked them not to waste my water, the response was, “Oh, I did not know.” There was also a lot of smoking zol on site. The crack repair and filling left a lot to be desired. We found some very large open cracks that had not been plastered. When we queried this, they rushed back and filled some, but we later found massive cracks that had been opened and not filled. I eventually filled some of these cracks myself. They never sanded down the filled cracks. By the time we realised this while painting, the cement was too hard to sand down and even out. We therefore have unsightly raised sections on some parts of our walls. Despite me asking them not to litter in my yard, and despite a large outside dustbin being available, they still did. For months afterwards, I found cigarette stompies, chicken bones, paint brush plastic wrappers, and even what looked like snoek bones in my yard. Rubble was thrown onto the lawn, where it was not always visible until it was picked up by the lawnmower. Workers were also often on their phones watching videos. Delays, excuses, and urgency We were promised that the work would take two months from start to finish. Instead, the work ran from May until the second week of September, and it was rushed again after I said I was hosting a function. We had initially been promised that it would not take longer than two months. There was one excuse after the next, including rain, cement not being cured, more rain, and a claim that they could not source the paint I had chosen. During the times when it was raining or damp, they could have started preparation work. Even if the cemented outside and inside cracks were still too wet, the walls, eaves, windows, and door frames could have been sanded down in the interim. Three sets of our doors were painted shut, and the back restroom window was also painted shut. Planning, communication, and site conduct Always sign a contract with a penalty clause. I noticed in another review of this company that the work also “took a while,” which matched our experience. Sometimes staff arrived without the necessary equipment, such as buckets, sc****rs, heat guns, cleaning materials, spades, and wheelbarrows. One heat gun had a suspect extension-cord join that became so hot it burnt out an inside plug. Dirty paint brushes were left in a bucket of water. I was told they would clean it the next day, but that day never arrived. There was often no notification that they were not coming. When I contacted them, I was told that the weather forecast for the greater metropolitan area showed rain. Area-specific forecasts were not used. On the day or week it was supposed to rain, we had only two spots of rain, and the rest of the week was clear. When I had family coming from out of town, I asked that a port-a-loo be organised for the staff because I did not want them using my inside ablutions. I was told it would be sorted out, but then they did not arrive that whole week. This happened twice because family came to stay over a two-month period. Some days the workers arrived without food. On other days, they left to buy food or building supplies and were gone for up to two hours, while the remaining workers sat around doing nothing. On other occasions, they sat around talking and did nothing for up to two hours, taking very long breaks. Lasting damage and unresolved defects My chimney started leaking, with water dripping down into the fireplace itself. In more than 20 years of living here, this had never happened before. They were very heavy-footed while moving around on the roof. The soil has now settled under the south side of the house where the underpinning was done, and a horizontal crack that we repeatedly asked them to fix was not repaired; it was just painted over. Holes appeared in the cement of our kitchen floor. The mix was very sandy and appeared to contain pieces that looked like styrofoam. No bonding was done on our walls before painting, and we are now finding spots where the paint is chipped or peeling. The quote was to paint the whole house, but the garage walls were not done, nor were the outbuildings. This showed that the last two weeks were simply a rush job. I did not appreciate Marc telling me I could have the leftover paint for free, considering that we had paid for it. The same applies to the leftover rebar that was removed. The excuses never ended, including vehicles being written off so they could not come to work, and claims that a wife was having life-threatening asthma attacks so no one could come to work. Years later, the paint is bubbling and the cracks that were supposed to be resolved by the underpinning never went away. The urgency we raised at the time was not taken seriously, and the trust we placed in them to do the work properly was badly abused.

Disbelief in Marc and Desiree Williams
After reading the comments about this business, I felt compelled to share our experience, as the same situation happened to my parents. They found Marc’s business on Snupit, called Lunarco, and after inquiring, they were invited to what appeared to be legitimate "offices" in George. My parents wanted three bathrooms renovated, and Marc Williams and his wife Desiree requested a 70% deposit. Their team started work a week after the deposit was paid. Later, my parents also decided to have the kitchen renovated, as everything seemed trustworthy. Marc and Desiree visited their home to provide quotes and again requested a 70% deposit for the kitchen. They removed the existing kitchen cabinets for refurbishment but later claimed they couldn’t be refurbished because they had rotted and were disposed of. They also took out all the wall tiles in the bathrooms, kitchen, and utility room. However, the project came to a complete halt after roughly rendering the walls, nothing was finished, and the new kitchen cupboards paid for never arrived. Throughout the process, they offered endless excuses, citing non-existent faults with the house, such as the need for underpinning (which was poorly done), and later suggesting additional work like tanking, which my parents declined to avoid further losses. No fixtures, fittings, or kitchen/utility cabinets were ever delivered. It’s now been five months, and my parents are living in a home without guest bathrooms and a non-functional kitchen, cooking from the veranda on a gas hob, the only thing that was left untouched. Marc and Desiree have stopped responding to calls, messages, and emails.
