Review of Meulmed Hospital
⭐ 1/5 Review for Meulmed Hospital
By: Kobus Bos, Pretoria North, South Africa
I was admitted to Meulmed Hospital around 20 January 2025 with a pressure ulcer. This was not my first stay — I was also admitted between 2021–2022 — and sadly my experience confirmed ongoing problems that I feel need urgent attention.
Previous Experience
In 2022, a senior night nurse declined my request to check my skin before discharge, even though I was concerned about breakdown. To my surprise, she was still employed when I returned in 2025.
Ward Transfers
I was moved from the Spinal Unit to another ward because of “bed shortages.” This separated me from three fellow patients I had bonded with, leaving me feeling isolated and emotionally drained.
Emergency Response
When I developed chest pain and a rapid heartbeat, my bell went unanswered for over 30 minutes. I felt alone and unsupported at a time when I needed staff presence most.
Quarantine Confusion
A red tape was placed around my bed, but I was still allowed to go to the gym, which made no sense to me. I was never given a clear explanation. My father — a microbiologist with 39 years of experience — was not permitted by the matron to sit by my bedside, which I found upsetting and unnecessary.
Kitchen Service
Myself and three other patients raised repeated complaints about the food: small portions and meals that were often cold. The kitchen shifted the responsibility to nurses to reheat the food, which I feel was unfair to already busy staff. For a short time I received warm meals, but the issue quickly returned despite notes on my food slip.

Final Word
I cannot recommend Meulmed Hospital based on my experiences. In my opinion, patient needs and rights are not being respected consistently, and service standards are poor. I hope management takes these issues seriously for the sake of future patients.
