Stay far away from Metrofibre

We'd been on an LTE contract for a while and it was expiring end of November. Decided to go the fibre route as we didn't enjoy the constant fluctuations with LTE speed and strength (especially during bad weather). Unfortunately we live in a complex where Metrofibre had done the installation of the fibre infrastructure for the complex.

This left us with no choice but to use them as the FNO. We chose Afrihost as the ISP and placed an order around the 20th of November and got a date of the 27th November as when we could expect to have the service up and running. It is now the 8th of December and Metrofibre has still not even scheduled the installation of the ONT box as yet. We have been sitting without home internet since 30th November and yet they still have not so much as phoned to schedule an installation date. Forced to spend money on expensive data bundles just to keep up with university work etc.

The whole delay was caused by their own incompetence where they somehow had it on their system that we had an active fibre line with Vodacom when it was the next door unit that has the active line. Spent close to 2 weeks of back and forth with Afrihost (who's support staff are generally quite kind and helpful) trying to get Metrofibre to get the installation done. Metrofibre didn't even figure out that they had an error on their system, it was only because I had pieced bits of information together from different email communication from Afrihost that we identified the issue.

This issue was only rectified on 4th December, literally 2 weeks after we placed the initial order. Despite the massive delay they caused, guess what? They still have not contacted me to schedule the installation. We continue to sit without any home internet and having to spend money on expensive OOB data while they show no regard for their clients and the inconvenience they caused.

Unfortunately we have no other option than Metrofibre as the FNO, however, if you actually have the choice of selecting your FNO, I'd steer well clear of Metrofibre, that is of course unless you don't mind waiting an indefinite period of time without any home internet and having absolutely no idea of when or even if it will ever be sorted out.

Dear M M

Thank you for bringing this matter to our attention, and we sincerely apologise for the inconvenience and frustration caused by the delay in your installation.

Please note that we have escalated your issue with our Installations Department and requested that they urgently contact you to schedule the ONT installation. We understand the impact this delay has had, especially with the need to stay connected for university work, and we are working to ensure that this is resolved as quickly as possible.

We appreciate your patience while we work to resolve the issue.

Kind Regards,
Siboniso
