POOR SERVICES

I have cancelled my medical aid, due to ongoing issues with coverage, claim payments, and the extremely high premiums we are paying for benefits we are not receiving.

Over the past year, we have experienced repeated problems:

My husband underwent surgery and was hospitalised, yet the scheme did not cover essential X-rays or scans related to the procedure. Despite being admitted, we still had to pay significant medical expenses out of our own pockets.

In September last year, I was involved in a motor vehicle accident. The casualty bill was not paid by the scheme at the time, and I personally settled the account. On the 20 January 2026 on my recent statement, I see that this amount was later paid from my savings allocation for 2026 without my knowledge or consent. I find this completely unacceptable, as the account had already been settled privately.

In April last year, I had an IUD inserted for treatment of endometriosis. As it was not effective, I had a follow-up consultation with my gynaecologist on 15 December, where the doctor advised that an additional form of birth control was medically necessary. When I contacted Medihelp, I was told this would not be covered. It is extremely disappointing that essential women’s health treatment is not supported, despite the high contributions we pay.

At this point, we are paying substantial monthly premiums, yet still covering major medical costs ourselves. The value and level of cover provided do not justify the expense.
