MediHelp - Poor application process and lack of transparency on timelines for hospital claims
My dad obtained a medical aid cover on MediHelp. He was called and answered all questions on his medical history accurately. Some questions weren’t asked like organ failure in the past etc. but he shared everything he could think of (this is evident in the recorded phone call). Many years back he was diabetic medication but for the past few years he wasn’t taking medication for sugar as he was not suffering with this illness. He was also not asked whether he has diabetes or have been treated for it in the past (we confirmed through the recording).
This past week, my father’s sugar levels spiked and needed to be admitted. The medical aid is refusing to give the hospital comfort that they will cover all or some of the costs.
Despite their own recording showing their sales consultant not asking a very important question around diabetes when filling in the application, MediHelp has not been assisting. Instead they say it’s under review and not giving the hospital clearance while under review.
It is so traumatic for loved ones while our parent is sedated and in higher care, to get no answers from the medical aid we have been paying for monthly and not knowing getting any answers on timeline and trying to source funds to cover the hospital bills in the meantime.
I would not recommend MediHelp.
