Medihelp is a ****

One Saturday night in September 2024, I was called to the patient's home for an emergency. The patient was leaking effluent all over his bed and had open wounds. No healthcare practitioner wanted to go out to see the patient at night, and the family couldn't drive to the hospital because the patient was very weak. I arrived and managed to solve the situation, cleaning the patient and covering all his gaping wounds with dressings. The same scenario occurred again on the 21st of September 2024 at night. I was reluctant to go and see the patient because I was scared to drive at night but the family begged me because the patient could not sleep on a soiled bed with leaking bandages. I went, cleaned the patient and covered him again with clean dressings and bandages but his stomach was running which was affecting the wounds around his abdomen and the bandages. The wounds were getting bigger and he was developing further dermatitis due to the continuous flow of effluent. The patient managed to sleep; however, on Sunday morning, September 22nd, 2024, I received a call again from the family stating that the same scenario that happened on Saturday night had begun. I went to sort the patient out and thereafter referred him to his specialist surgeon for readmission to the hospital.

I thereafter submitted a request to Medihelp for Authorization which was granted and a claim was submitted. To this date, I am still waiting for Medihelp to pay my practice for that service. I have called them every week and I am given one excuse after another and another reference number, I really feel so bad for the patient who is paying his medical aid premiums monthly and cannot be supported by the same medical aid when he desperately needs help I think Medihelp is running a ****
