knee replacement puzzle

I have been advised by my orthopaedic surgeon that my right knee needs surgery ie knee replace. I have been a member of Medihelp for over 40 years, am a retired specialist doctor aged 77.

On contacting Medhelp to assess the cover they would give I was told that I should a different surgeon who operates in the same hospital group and that if I use this all expenses will be paid.

I preferred to go to the orthopaedic surgeon who I know and submitted the quote for assessment by Medihelp. The reply I got from Medihelp made no sense and they even forgot to mention their coverage for anaesthesia and hospitalisation clearly. I hade to contact Medihelp to ask for these details and have only just received this after a long conversation and letter.

the coverage detail is very difficult to understand and even the surgeon finds it difficult to understand.

How is it possible for me to have the same procedure in the same hospital group but at a hospital far from me and yet all costs will be covered whereas if I have the procedure at hospital from same group only 1 km from me is o difficult for Medihelp to give clear cost accounting.
