******* process, next step is Ombudsman

Signed up online to query price. Wanted to know what dependant charge would be and also process for moving from current provider to Medihelp. Used an ID number that I found and doesn't belong to me. Expected some sort of contact from Medihelp. Never attached any supporting documents. No ID's, no proof of address, no bank statements, no payslips, etc. Just a random 13 digit ID number and my bank account details. Medihelp signed me up even though I am currently and was with Discovery, Naspers MMED option. This is surely *******? Furthermore, they debited my account without notice. Never called, emailed, SMS'd, posted any form of notification to say that they had even received my online application. The only time I noticed that I was officially a member was when they deducted R2000 from my bank account. I called and spoke with a manager who promised to reverse the deduction and also cancel the subscription with immediate effect. I didn't have enough funds in my account at the time, though, so the debit order bounced leaving me with unwanted bank charges. This happened a few months ago and Medihelp have been hounding me to for the R2000 ever since. Every, single, month. The latest communication I received from them was a warning that they are going to pass the main member over to the ITC. The main member doesn't even exist, lol. I am the main member and the dependant. It was a dummy application. All contact info belongs to me. Both email addresses and cellphone numbers. I have been emailing them from the 'main members' email address ever since. I also have the call recording which proves that management promised to cancel and reverse charges because I called from my work phone. I will add all contact info to the following private message.

My membership number and contact details are included in the previous private messages. Please also note that if you sent notification approving my application to either of the listed contact details, I did not receive it. You can confirm with your IT guys whether the messages were actually delivered or not if that is the case.

Dear yasinjones

Medihelp could not reach you by phone as requested and therefore provides our feedback below.

Medihelp’s website offers prospective members the option to obtain a quote or to request a consultant to contact them. In your case, Medihelp received an electronic application for membership from your wife and not a request for a quote. In the application, she declared that the information provided was accurate and complete and she agreed to the conditions of membership.

On 20 September 2016, you posted on Medihelp’s Facebook page that your wife had app**** for membership online and had added you as her dependant.

Your wife declared on the application form that neither she nor you would be registered as beneficiaries of another registered medical scheme on the date on which she requested membership of Medihelp. According to the information provided in the application form, your wife was not previously registered as a beneficiary of a medical scheme and your last date of cover with Naspers was 31 August 2016.

Your wife authorised Medihelp on the application form to recover the monthly subscriptions payable by debit order from the bank account provided by her on the application form, as from the date of your enrolment. Medihelp acted in good faith and accepted the information provided in the electronic application for membership. Medihelp activated the membership from 1 September 2016, as requested on the application. Medihelp sent an SMS as confirmation on 16 July 2016 to the cell number provided on the application, and a second SMS on 18 July 2016 to confirm your membership number. Medihelp emailed a membership certificate to your wife on 18 July, to the address provided on the application form. Medihelp also posted a Proof of membership document, a membership card and a welcome pack to her on 19 July 2016, also to the address provided on the application for membership.

Medihelp has now received the membership certificate from Discovery which confirms your active membership with them during the time when your membership of Medihelp was activated. As a result, you were deregistered as your wife’s dependant from the date of your enrolment, namely 1 September 2016. Medihelp has adjusted your wife’s subscription account accordingly, but she is still liable for her own subscription for September 2016. Your wife should please contact Medihelp urgently regarding payment of the outstanding amount.

Kind regards

"Medihelp acted in good faith and accepted the information provided" - no, this is not 'good faith'. A post to Facebook saying that the main member was my wife proves nothing. Do you have a marriage certificate? Have you spoken with her once since Spetember last year? No! Because she doesn't exist...

But hey. You sound pretty confident in your *** praat so be my guest. You can chase an imaginary person forever for all I care. As long as I'm removed and you don't debit my bank account. We're all good.:)

Fyi, I never received any of the notices you mentioned in your response. What are South African laws for signing up someone for a medical aid plan that already has an existing plan anyway? You only received my ACTIVE membership cert now but you've already charged. I'm pretty sure this fact alone warrants a valid lawsuit...

- I signed up online September 2016 using someone elses ID number.

- Someone else was listed as my wife and the main member and I was dependant.

- Only provided ID numbers, no actual documents.

- Medihelp activated account without confirming that I had received notification.

- I didn't receive any notification whatsoever.

- I have an active medical aid membership which was also active at the time of signing up with Medihelp.

- Medihelp activated account without confirming and charged me even though I have a current membership with another provider (this is *******).

- Medihelp only received my active membership certificate in this week.

- How can they sign users up without attempting to make any contact?

- To top it off, they never sent any details to me confirming activation. No cards. No account numbers. Nada. But they are very quick to charge the monthly subscription.

- I went to the doctor a few times since September last year and claimed from my current membership. Doctors made absolutely no mention of Medihelp but they're still hard up on getting money owed to them from a person that doesn't even exist.

What's the point of telling me about your debt collection process? Who are you going to collect from? Not me. I have a membership with Discovery already. Go collect from the main member.;)
