Handed Over Account

Please advise why does this scheme hand over members for not paying their premium?

Benefits were not even used and the policy cancelled due to non payment?

If the member did not have money to pay the premium then how do expect them to pay the premium now.

Been a broker for the past 8 years i have never come across such a thing. Normal process that the medical aid scheme follows is - 1st month (non payment) policy is suspended. 2nd month (non payment) lapse the policy to the last date premium was received. if no prem ever received - cancel from inception. MEMBER NOT LIABLE AS COVER HAS CEASED FROM INCEPTION. NO benefits used. Please this is absolutely ridiculous. Medihelp really needs to come to the party. In these days were members can bearly afford to eat you want them to pay for medical aid that they never used. REALLY.

As discussed telephonically on 16 August 2016, Medihelp has not been authorised by the member to provide his personal information to a third party. We will therefore only be able to comment on the member’s case as mentioned in your complaint once we receive written permission from him on the form prescribed for this purpose.
I can however provide the following general comments regarding the payment of subscription fees:
Like all medical schemes, Medihelp insures members against the financial consequences of medical treatment as explained in the Rules of the Scheme, in exchange for the applicable subscriptions payable by members. Members are required by law to pay their monthly subscriptions on time. Rule 11.6 of the Rules of Medihelp stipulates that if a member fails to pay subscriptions to Medihelp on the date on which it becomes due, Medihelp shall notify such member by letter that if the amount is not settled on the date indicated in the letter, benefits shall be suspended. The member will furthermore be informed that his membership may be terminated if the subscriptions in arrears are not remitted within 30 days from the date of suspension. Medihelp cannot comment on the processes followed at other medical schemes.
