CHRONIC MEDICINE THAT MEDIHELP DECIDES TO FUND FROM ACUTE FUNDS

<p>My dad has registered under chronic condition for hypertesion NIFEDALAT 20SR TABS. The active ingredient is Nifedipine. My dad has always been taking Cipalat retard (generic). This month the pharmacy provided us with another generic of Adco Vascard with exactly the same active ingredient and also listed as a generic covered in full under MRP. However, Medihelp funded this purchase from acute medicince funds and not PMB. When speaking to the consultant, they stated that they needed a new script with the same Nappi code for the adco vascard. From my understanding, medicines are funded by the medicine class and are not funded based on Nappi codes. Whilst i understand that certain medicines are more expensive, they are still funded based on the class and active ingredient and the fact that the exact nappi item for adco vascard was not listed under the authorised medicines, an alternative generic (Nifedalat) was and therefore the medicine should be funded from PMB/Chronic and not acute. Should this not be rectified immediately, then I will report this matter to the Council for Medical Schemes. Reference number for call was T ********** 7.</p>
