Vw radio code

year I bought a VW polo at Centurion Select, 2018 model. My battery died and I put in a new battery, as a results the radio required a 4 digit code. That was something new to me cause, it is a given fact that a car s battery will die at a certain point. I looked for the 4 digit code in the manual and there was nothing. I went back to the dealership, and he said it was supposed to be in the book, it was not found. I was referred to VW to get the code, I was told that I must pay R500 to get the code. I felt like I am being treated unfairly because is like buying a a car with 3 wheels and expecting me as the consumer to buy the 4th wheel.

Why would the manufacturer create a system that will require consumers to pay everytime the battery dies. Please assist me in this matter, if not me then other South Africans because this is not fair to us
