Trying to buy a car for my daughter

I have just signed a OTP with one of your dealers for a 2nd hand car.

The car is in Bloemfontein and part of the OTP agreement is to ship the car (which I am paying for) to a local McCarthy Motors, where I will then take delivery.

I suggested to pay 80% upfront.

This dealer now tells me that actually they want 100% before they can ship and before I actually take delivery from my local dealership.

Obviously then I would not get the car if the remaining 20% was not paid.

This sounds absurd and very poor practice and I cannot but imagine that this is a commission issue. The sales guy and dealer principle then use the excuse to tell me this is what head office says and it is out of their hands.

I must admit I this has left a bad taste re the brand. I thought this is why one as a customer invests in a national brand.

I must admit that I succumbed and made the payment because I was left with no other choice.
The point is I am paying and actually not taking delivery of the vehicle.
This car is actually being delivered to McCarthy in Stellenbosch (and not to me) and so actually I should not have made any payment (other than perhaps the transport costs) until I took delivery here. I was prepared to pay 80% (without receiving or taking delivery of the car).
Surely a national and large orgnaisation like McCarthy could have very simply called me to tell me the car has arrvied in Stellenbosch and that I can then pay.
Franchises work when one creates local ownership, but it should not be an excuse for the Franchisor to absolve responsibility and pass the buck back to the Franchisee. It is sad when a national brand take a Pontius position and places the onnus on such a simple decision with the local Franchisee. This experience has only ended up damaging the brand and my perception of McCarthy. This will be the very last time I ever do business with McCarthy.
