Toyota Auris switch
I own a Toyota Auris X-r 2014 model. My car has about 88000km on the clock. My vehicle is still under warranty, since it’s only 4 years old and under 90 000km on the clock. On Tuesday the 18th December 2018 I took my car to McCarthy Toyota Centurion with a huge problem of lights that just went off and they wouldn’t come on. I was assisted by the lady called Karen Pretorious. When the car was diagnosed, I was told that the problem was a switch that was faulty. I was told that they don’t have the part and they’ll have to order the part. I made it clear that I was going on leave and I was traveling out of town on Saturday morning. I pleaded with Karen to ensure that she gets the part available for fitment by Friday the 21st December 2018, due to my travel arrangements. Karen promised that the part will be there on Thursday. On Thursday the 20th I waited till the afternoon and I got a text message stating that I shall bring my car in on Friday morning for the part to be fitted and that I’ll basically wait for the switch to be fitted and I can take my car home. On Friday the 21st I took my car in as arranged, I set at the dealer for about an hour and thirty minutes, only to be told that the part that was ordered is wrong. Which is a total nonsense as one uses a VIN number to place an order. Karen Pretorius told me that she will find a switch and I shall please leave the car. I agreed to this and I asked to be taken to my place of work. I was then given a driver to take me to work. Later in the day Karen contacts me to tell me that the switch that they got from the other dealership was not the correct one, therefore she’ll have to order a switch. I told Karen that I would like to have my car fixed and delivered the Friday afternoon as I need to travel. She told me that, that will not be possible as there’s nothing else she could do but to order a part, which will not be delivered the same day. I told Karen that, that wasn’t my fault, however I need the car fixed. Then I requested to speak to JJ, the “service manager”, who immediately, without listening to my story, told me that I shouldn’t worry the matter will be resolved. I then hung up the telephone. Not even an hour later, I get a call stating that my car is read for collection. This shocked me really as Karen said earlier that there was nothing that could be done. I went to the dealership and collected my car, checked and the lights were on and I was fine. I saw JJ and he mentioned that they resorted to cleaning the old switch instead of finding a new part and it worked. I asked him that if it wasn’t going to switch off again, he said no. Driving my car off the dealership, I noticed that the steering wheel wasn’t straight. I drove back to the dealership and they said that was a minor issue and they’ll fixed it. This was another negligence which just told me that quality assurance is selective. That was fixed and I left the dealership. Later in the early evening, late afternoon I went to my friend’s house, lights were on and I was happy. When I left my friend’s house, starting the car, it was now dark, the lights did not come on. I was forced to drive my car without rear and fog lights on. This was dangerous as cars behind me could not see me. I was upset with the fact that I was promised that the issue was resolved, however this was just for the dealership to get me out of sight. Now I need to travel with the car that has no rear lights to my holiday. What I think is, they did not want to get a new part, even though I was told that the claim was made from the warranty and it was paid for, as the car is almost out of warranty. I want a correct part ordered and read for the 7th and I would like a written apology from the dealership. This is sickening.
