Terrible service

Hi.

Out of pure frustration, I am writing this complaint. I bought a second hand Toyota Corolla from McCarthy Midrand on the 16th of May 2016. After agreeing with the sales manager on a couple of issues with the car to be fixed, when I arrived to pick up the car, a number of items were still not fixed. I nonetheless took the car and agreed with the manager to have the issues sorted at a later date.

While driving the vehicle for a day or two, I became aware of a slight noise that increased when reaching higher speeds. To me, this sounded like a wheel bearing. I contacted the dealership immediately to report the noise.

The sales manager personally collected the vehicle from my workplace on the 25th of May and left a loan vehicle with me while the dealership inspected my car.

After much frustration trying to communicate with the dealership and a bunch of empty promises of when I would get my car back, the vehicle was finally returned at around 18:00 on the 3rd of June.

When driving with the vehicle for the first time after it was returned, I realised that it was making the exact same noises. I contacted the dealership and arranged for the car to be collected from me again.

On the 6th of June at around 11am, I received a phone call from the sales manager stating that a driver was in front of my workplace to collect my car and leave a loan vehicle. This was not pre-arranged with me and I was expected to walk out of an important presentation to meet the driver. Regardless, I was happy as at least my car would now be properly looked at and repaired.

Unfortunately, today (8th of July 2016), almost a month later, I still do not have my car back.

According to the sales manager, at first the problem seemed to be that the workshop only replaced one wheel bearing during the initial return. They now would look at the other wheel bearings as well and promised me that the car would be returned to me the Friday after it was collected.

After that deadline was missed, I contacted the dealership and informed them that I was going on a long planned holiday and needed my car back at latest Tuesday (7th of June). The sales manager assured me that, that would not be a problem and that everything would be ready by that date.

Yet again, that deadline was missed. The workshop manager phoned me this time asking if they could get the car back to me at around 11am on Thursday (9th of June) as they wanted to check a few final things to make sure that the car was 100% repaired. I communicated to them that, that would be too late, as I was leaving on the planned holiday at 6am that morning.

Trying to be understanding and not wanting the workshop to do a rush job, I agreed that they could keep the vehicle with them while I was away and had to make other vehicle arrangements to go on holiday. But, that I would then get the vehicle back the Monday morning after I return. This would be the 11th of June. Moments later, I received a call from the sales manager stating that the workshop was just finalising a few things and that he still suspected that I would get the vehicle back on that day (7th of June). Clearly the one hand had no idea what the other was doing as the sales manager had not had a conversation with the workshop manager about the vehicle. I informed him of my arrangement with the workshop and requested that they should really communicate better internally.

Upon my return, I again contacted the dealership to arrange a time and place to collect my vehicle, fully expecting everything to be sorted out. Only to be disappointed again! More excuses about part availability and also not exactly knowing what the problem is, as the vehicle was apparently still making a slight noise at higher speeds. This time, a gearbox issue was apparently suspected.

The vehicle was apparently booked in to a specialist gearbox repair center in Pretoria (Select Gearbox) on the 14th of June. And now, here we are. Still sitting without my car.

I recieved a phone call today saying that they have completely stripped the gearbox yet again as they are still unable to find the exact problem. I wonder how long it is going to take this time!!
