Taken for the ride of my life
I purchased a pre-owned vehicle from McCarthy Toyota Kingsmead in July.Took possession on 21/07/2017.I am a first time owner and driver.I have had no previous experience with cars.Within a week I had problems starting the car and there was a sound that got louder the faster the car went.It would not idle intermittently.Thought it was me initially .I did inform the salesman of the problem but thought it was something i had to handle.I thought i would wait for my son to come back from working out and he could take it to a mechanic. However when he realised the problem and also could not start the car ,he advised me to take it back to the dealership. The problem got worse till the car would not start for days in a row.I took it to the dealership in October. The assistant manager sent me to check the battery and for wheel alignment,I had gone through a pothole.,100%battery at super quick, they recommended diagnostic,100% at Ignition.Taken for w/a &balancing at Super tyres. They found leaking shocks, worn bearing and window wipers. The interior light had fused by then.I took it back to the dealership and the manager asked the Technician to take it for a drive,he recommended I bring it in,which I did.The car was with them for for the week, only the shocks were changed . I regassed the aircon and found the cap was missing.A few weeks later the same problem, taken in. A few other things fixed. The idling problem persisted,But they would not believe me.I had to make videos and still they blamed the way I turned the key.On the fourth return of the car It would not start for them as well ,regardless of how they turned the key. They asked for another chance to fix the problem.I had sent an email that morning before going in and listed all the chances I had given them and the attitude they displayed that made me feel that they thought I was trying to **** them and was a ****.I informed them I had reported this matter to the MIOSA.This time I got offered a courtesy vehicle,My previous comments of having to pay for a vehicle as well as transport when the car wouldn't start , fell on deaf ears.I told them I would be working night duty. Two days later,I received an email to collect my car and return the loan.I informed the salesman that I would bring the loan in as soon as possible. He then told me I had to bring the car in as it was sold already and would be collected the next day.I informed him I could not come there and get home to prepare for work in rush hour traffic.I was shocked to realise they would loan me someone else's vehicle.I collected my car 2 days later when off shift.I had asked for a guarantee that the car is now 100% and got told it cannot be given as machines break and they had finally found the cause of the problem and had fixed it.I took it straight to Jack's Tyres to replace the one tyre and do a w/a and balancing as the steering vibrated when going over 100km.The car would not idle. The employee at Jack's Tyres took 5 minutes to get it to idle, thankfully, as I could drive it back to the dealership and take the loan car back.Whilst out and about got a ticket for expired license on the loan car.I am so tired of this ride and would like to get off.I have asked for my money back or a replacement car but all they do is keep insisting I must give them more chances.I do not want a car that cannot be fixed ,after 5 returns I think it is ridiculous to insist I keep a problematic car.The car is a 2011 Chevrolet Aveo LS 1.6 automatic.I did not realise I had to take a mechanic with me to inspect the car I'm purchasing. My expectation was that a car from a dealership is mechanically and electronically sound and all I had to worry about was wear and tear over time, if I looked after the car properly.Im at my wits end,I do not want to be saddled with a problematic car that I have to pay for ,for the next 5 years.I would not recommend this dealership to my worst enemy.
