McCarthy Toyota Centurion - Dishonest

I sent in our works bakkie last week for an assessment of the blowing sound from the engine under boost, which I assumed was a broken pipe or hose as I have some mechanical knowledge. We received notification that the turbo was leaking from the seals and that it needed to be replaced at a cost of R28 000. The car was collected and the attached payment made for the diagnosis.

I then booked the car into an independent mechanic on Monday and was told that he had checked the turbo and found nothing wrong with the turbo bearings and seals, but that the rubber hose between the turbo and the pipe to the intercooler was split. The turbo was refitted with a new rubber hose at a cost of R3 800.

I find this absolutely unacceptable on every level. We as the public take our vehicles to the dealers under the impression and trusting that they are the experts and know what you are doing. This is downright dishonest and either the agents don’t know what they are doing, or they are being blatantly dishonest with an unassuming public to make their budgets.

Furthermore, we received the vehicle back from Centurion with two hubcaps missing on the left hand side. I e-mailed Riaan Grobler at Centurion about this and have not received a response to date.

Do not use this dealership because you will pay for parts and service that you don't need.
