Complaint against Bidvest McCarthy Pre-Owned

Thabo Tjatji
76 Jacqueline Street,

The Reeds,

Centurion,

0157
********** 191
**********
22 June 2017

Dear Sir/Madam

Re: (Make: Land Rover Discovery 4, Model: 2012 and Registration number: FS 18 PM)

On February 2017 I purchased a motor vehicle from Bidvest McCarthy dealership in Midrand (Make: Land Rover Discovery 4, Model: 2012 and Registration number: FS 18 PM). Unfortunately, the vehicle has not been satisfactory because the first week of driving it I heard a funny whistling sound on the front wheels and I went back to the dealership to explain the problem and the sales rep (Calvin Khoza, resigned) said it is because of the type of tires I am using, later this statement was echoed by the sales rep’s colleague (Arthur Matabane, resigned) to say that I am using off road tires hence the sound. Prior my purchase with the dealership I asked Calvin Khoza that what if the vehicle gives me problems after I received it, he then mentioned that I have up to 6 months to return the vehicle and lodge a complaint.

On the 24 of April 2017, I took the vehicle for service at Land Rover Centurion and I also requested they check the issue as it was a perturbing factor from my side, and indeed the results from Land Rover Centurion came out and only to find that the vehicle had a problem with the Control Arm Bushes and Bearing hence the sound in the front wheels. I then took back the vehicle to Bidvest McCarthy dealership in Midrand to lodge the complaint but this time with the assistant Manager (Thabo Sekgantso) and Divisional Manager (Uwe Ludwig). Ludwig said I must bring the vehicle for second opinion at their Land Rover McCarthy Dealership, they then provided me with the 3 Door Mini Cooper loan vehicle to use while my vehicle is still with them for second opinion. They held the vehicle for a month and when I requested the update I was told that their dealership found out that there was an issue with Control Arm Bushes, then when I thought my vehicle will be booked for repairs, I was told that I have driven approximately 9000km since I took the car from the dealership and also this Control Arm Ambush problem might have occurred during that time. The Divisional Manager is not considering the fact that I had these issues the first month after I got the vehicle.

Below is the mail received from Divisional Manager Ludwig stipulating why he or the dealership won’t cover the cost for these issues.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Good morning Mr. Tjatji,

In response to your request for assistance regarding repairs to your Landrover Discovery 4 3.0TD/SD V6 SE (Vin: SALLAAAF3CA613663), we comment as follows.

Background:

· The vehicle was purchased from Bidvest McCarthy Pre-Owned Midrand and invoiced on the 30th January 2017 with approximately 89000km on the clock.

· As part of our reconditioning and quality control process, a Dekra condition report was performed on the 27th January 2017. Dekra, in association with the AA, is an independent roadworthy centre. I have attached a copy of the report for cross reference purposes.

· You will note a comment of “no defects” regarding the front axle suspension and brakes area – bearings and joints without defects.

· Your vehicle has driven approximately 9000km since taking delivery and now has 98083km on the clock.

Complaint:

· You took the vehicle to Landrover Centurion and they diagnosed the need to replace 2 x lower control arms and 1 x wheel bearing.

Resolution:

· We provided you with a loan vehicle whilst Landrover Midrand, which is part of our group, provided us with an internal quote.

· Considering the Dekra condition report performed before delivery (as mentioned above and attached) and the fact that the vehicle passed roadworthy, indicates that the vehicle was up to standard.

· You have done 9000km in the interim and it is highly likely that the damage was caused over this period which we cannot be held responsible for.

· As a gesture of goodwill and retention however, we are able to soften the blow and assist with an internal parts price – the nett effect is that we are able to save you R 4435.00 inclusive on your original quote from Landrover Centurion, at R 17020.86.

Your vehicle is standing at our premises in Midrand and you have our loan vehicle. Could you please let me know what time would suit you today, so that we can swop vehicles. We have a demo planned on the loan vehicle for tomorrow and the swop would need to be done today.

Kind regards

Uwe Ludwig

Consolidated Brands

Divisional Manager – Bidvest McCarthy Pre-Owned

Email: **********
Telephone : **********

Mobile : **********
