"Because nobody knows your Volkswagen better than we do..." yeah right!

January 2015: I purchased my brand new Polo Vivo Maxx from VW Constantia Kloof and drove it off their show room floor after the bell was rung and a few of their staff members came over to congratulate me. I received great sales service by the way, from the moment I walked in to purchase my car until that moment I drove off their showroom floor. Little did I know that this would be the last of the great service they’ve promised.

First Service: I arrive only to hear that I could not be found on their system even though I bought my car from this dealership, so much for “knowing my Volkswagen…”

Second Service – November 2015: Once again, I was nowhere to be found on their system even though this was supposedly fixed after my last visit. That “nobody knows your Volkswagen better than we do.” slogan is definitely starting to sound like an empty promise. A faulty passenger door lock, faulty light above the rear number plate, rattle in driver-side door and loose rubber lining which was lifting whenever the driver-side window was closed was reported. I was told to collect my vehicle, only to arrive and be told that I would have to come back a few weeks later as parts had to be ordered to fix the number plate light (now suddenly held in place with electrical tape) and driver door rubber lining. Two weeks later I arrived back at the dealership with a faulty fuel gauge. I queried when I would be contacted for the previous problems to be sorted out and once again I was told that I’d be contacted in a week or two. Needless to say, I never heard back from them.

Follow up – February 2016: Nobody knows my Volkswagen, well, definitely not this dealership as for a third time they could not find me on their system. Just as expected, they did not know who I am or the fact that I’ve been waiting to hear when the faults on my car would be fixed. My car is still under warranty, why do I have to struggle with all this nonsense? I contacted their service manager. We agreed that all faults would be fixed during my third service.

Third Service - May 2016: “Because nobody knows your Volkswagen, not even us” I cringed at the sound of “Have you ever been with us before?” Yes, numerous times, I even sent a mail to confirm my service together with the faults on my vehicle, only to arrive and hear that I was not booked for a service today and no loan car was arranged.

A lot more has happened since the 17th of May when I left my car at this dealership. It is now more than three weeks later and I’m still waiting. “Because nobody knows your Volkswagen, not even you.” is quite fitting I think. You know what, you can keep your Volkswagen, take it off my hands. My love and trust in the Volkswagen brand has died along with the after sales service which I was supposed to receive.
