Maxidor - False claims on being an effective crime barrier

Being victims of crime we were looking forward to having the Maxidor brand as the first barrier of crime in our home. However, whilst the sales rep and most of the staff have extremely good people s****s, we found the product that was installed at our property on 21 December 2016 to be of poor quality. It was quite shocking and appalling, the extent of the defects.

We were happy to do business with Maxidor initially, as Donovan Atkins, the sales rep sold us quite well on the value, buy-back guarantees and quality control inspections on the product. Whilst the buy-back guarantees are supposed to give customers peace of mind, we were very surprised at the poor quality workmanship of the overall product delivered. To name a few:

· The bars installed are bent and skew

· There is a break in the patterns in the sliding window bars

· Rivets are broken and loose

· Bars and sliders not made to window size, so they move unevenly with too much extra space

· Doors and locks made upside down

· The tracks don’t close properly

This was actually a learning curve as it exposed a lot of flaws and weak spots in the design of Maxidor and its promise to protect its customers. My husband pointed out some of the flaws such as the skew and bending bars to the first set of installers but they dismissed it saying our windows were skew. Later when the owner of the branch, Bert arrived, we also pointed it out to him. He explained that the “flights” were not opened enough and called his head installer to complete the job and have a look at our queries. The second installer was quite knowledgeable. My husband walked him through each room, pointing out the flaws and defects. He was also shocked at the product we were given and the workmanship and said it seemed that our entire order was rushed.

We feel quite exposed with the product as it does not come across as tamper proof and has a lot of weak spots. I’m pretty certain it did not even go through a quality inspection as Donovan had promised, and if it did that is even more disturbing. The next day the feedback we received is that head office was quite upset that we were so knowledgeable about the weak points and design of the product. My husband is actually quite a smart man and we were surprised with head office’s response. It’s almost like Maxidor knew the flaws with their product and were disappointed we had discovered them too. But what if we were not as knowledgeable? We would have accepted a poor grade product thinking we were receiving the best protection and the people selling it to us would be comfortable sleeping at night knowing they were not caught out.

We immediately notified Ray and Bert from the Fourways branch that we’re dealing with, that we want the product removed and our money back. Bert made light of the whole situation saying he would carry out on site repairs in January 2017. Our thoughts on this and not accepting the Maxidor product is this: The weaknesses in Maxidor's design are exposed and we no longer have any faith in this brand. When it comes to security there is only one shot at getting it right. You cannot fix a defective product and give the customer peace of mind. We do not feel comfortable with this product in our property, and would like it removed and our money refunded.

Rose

Gauteng
