Paying for Windows 8 twice

I purchased a Toshiba laptop at Matrix Warehouse Centurion approx 1.5 years ago. It came with a pre-installed version of Windows 8. I never received a DVD containing the OS and nor is there any visible licence nr on the laptop. Recently the OS has gone ******* by showing a blue screen of death and getting stuck in an infinite loop. This most probably happened after the OS automatically updated. Apparently this happens frequently with Windows 8. I took it back to Matrix and was told that they need to reinstall windows but that I had to purchase a new copy. The reasons I was told were dubious. Why do I need to pay for something twice? I have also communicated with the Matrix head office electronically but after 48 hours I have heard nothing from them yet.

Hello DaveJK,

Thank you for your post

Microsoft has developed their Windows 8 operating system that is embedded on the BIOS itself. There is no licence sticker on the laptops itself any more. They also do not supply a recovery disk with their operating system. Please take the laptop back to the store at your earliest convenience and we will endeavor to get the laptop back to a working state. We apologise for the frustration that you have experienced with this issue and we trust that this meets with your approval.
