Matrix Online store is misleading customers
I purchased an HP Officejet 6950 AIO online on the Matrix website on 26 Feb 2020. At the time of the purchase, the Matrix site indicated that there were 4 units in stock. The amount was deducted from my credit card, and I received an email confirming my order (#72603). Delivery was to be made to a nearby Matrix store.
Later in the day I was called by Matrix, explaining that my order could in fact not be processed, since the printer I had ordered was "end of life", and no stock was available, despite their site reporting 4 units in stock before I placed my order. I was advised that they would make a plan - I said I would even go for a different brand, as long as the specs matched. I made it clear from the outset that I would have been happy with something for the same price, as long as the specs matched. I was not interested in a refund, as I wanted that specific printer at the same price as the Matrix site had advertised it for.
A long back and forth then ensued, during which time I was offered 2 very entry level (lower spec) printers, which I was not prepared to accept as their print speeds were nowhere near the unit I had ordered. Finally it seemed that progress was being made, when Matrix said they could offer me an HP Officejet 6960 printer, but I would have to pay in a difference of about R600. Initially I was tempted to go with this to just get the deal done. This all changed when I was advised that I would need to pay R4 per KM delivery if I wanted delivery at the same store where I had originally requested my order to go to. Insulting.
Matrix clearly don't understand anything about accountability. The mistake was their mistake, not mine. Then they wanted me to accept a lower end printer. Then they wanted me to go for a slightly better printer, but pay money in and then still hit me with delivery charges. Matrix seem to be forgetting that their online store was selling a product that was in fact end of life, and that their system allowed me to pay for a product which didn't even exist in their stock. They then willingly accepted my money, only to turn around afterwards and try to brush aside the glaring errors in their own online system.
Why should the glaring fault in the Matrix system be passed onto the customer, and why should Matrix be allowed to get away with this? To merely offer a refund at this point is insulting and speaks volumes about Matrix customer service. The whole point of me placing the order in the first place was to get that spec printer for that price, as was advertised on your very misleading website. I'll be expecting a proper solution to this from Matrix.
