Damaged Motherboard, Unprofessional Service
Took brand new components still in packaging (Motherboard, CPU, Cooler, RAM and Case) for a PC Build to Matrix Northgate in December. They phoned me a day later to say that the PC had been put together but it was not switching on and they had no idea why.
I took the motherboard back to the supplier and was told there was a bent pin. Took it back to Matrix, they said they would send it to head office as a guy there apparently fixes broken pins. Got it back and they told me apparently it was working now. Very strange as the technician said he couldn't see damage the first time, and it wasn't switching on, so what was wrong with it??
However when I tried to get the build done again I was told the damaged pin would short circuit the CPU, basically unusable. The motherboard was also a mess, with thermal paste all over the board, my case was also scratched, and the dust mesh cover had dents in it.
When I went back to Matrix Northgate, they still claim that the board was damaged when I bought it. However, this does not make sense, according to them it was not working the first time, no damage noticed, but when head office 'fixed' it, it was suddenly working? I even asked the Technician why there was a thermal paste messed on the board and he simply said that it can be cleaned up, what kind of unprofessional operation is being run there, where you mess up a thermal paste application and feel it's ok?
The board cost R5 000.
