Client service - loosing customer

My dad wanted to buy a rather expensive printer, he knew what he wanted and the branch had stock. So he goes into this branch, and at the sales (till) counter approaches a young man working there and starts to tell the young man about the printer he wants. Now my dad, can't speak English, and is set in his ways. The young man only replies and keeps talking in English, my dad tries again in Afrikaans, but still the young man only speaks English, not even trying to be helpful.

That is very unprofessional. And needless to say, you lost that sale, just because of that. He took his business to another company, helping him in the language he understood and could speak.

You are failing your customers.

Hello lin777,

Thank you for your post

Regrettably the staff member that you spoke to is English and cannot assist with all the Afrikaans phrases to describe the working of a printer. It is your right to be served in the language of your choice but to expect everyone to be able to answer you back is rather fickle. PC parts and components do not always have a name in Afrikaans and is most difficult to translate and describe. We regret losing your business for this reason but are unable to accommodate you with every single employee in your preference of language.

Best regards,
