***********

I have taken delivery of a vehicle the 29/10 and signed a finance agreement with Marquis Finance.

It has not been a full two weeks yet and I am already regretting the decision as this is in my opinion the worst finance house and it feels that I am dealing with *********** staff that has absolutely no understanding of what you are trying to explain to them.

I have planned a holiday for the entire year that involves me going cross border into Mozambique (16km from the SA border) and booked and paid accommodation in August this year - long before I have planned to purchase the new vehicle. I came across a vehicle that I like in October and decided to purchase the vehicle and went with Marquis due to their competitive interest rates - this week I attempted to obtain the cross border letter and I have been told they only issue cross border letters after 6 months.

This is a terrible clause as of I knew I would have not financed with them - as I also have a cross border trip planned again in January which also has to be cancelled as my finance house refuses to issue me for a cross border letter - I have attempted on numerous occasions explaining to a staff member the urgency of this situation with the only reason given to me is “the account is still fairly new” I have emailed explaining the situation with copies of my ID, passport, tracker information, accommodation confirmation, proof of insurance, a copy of the natis obtained from the dealership with again receiving an one sentence response about the account being new with offering no further assistance or advise.

Two holidays booked and paid for down the drain with to little notice to cancel and receive a refund due to a irrelevant claus by Marquis Finance that is not explained in any way before a contract is signed with them.

Reviewer Update
Just as an update - Marquis Finance has made contact with me and after 2 days still gave the exact same answer that they cannot provide me with a cross border letter within the first 6 months of the contract.

I have asked for the specific clause that is in the contract that I have signed and they have provided feedback stating it is not a clause within their contract but however a principle within their business and an “industry standard” which is not the case.

I have logged a formal complaint at the Ombudsman as this business principle is basically restricting the clients and limiting legitimate travel which becomes a basic human right issue in my opinion as well.

Dear Brandon,
Thank you for keeping me updated. I understand your frustration and the importance of having clarity on this matter. While we confirm that the cross-border letter restriction is based on our business principles and industry norms, I appreciate your perspective on the matter and the challenges it presents. For transparency, I have provided further documentation on the policy as it applies to our agreements. I hope this sheds some light, but please reach out if there’s anything more I can clarify.
