They promise the world and the pull the carpet out from under you.

I was supposed to be employed by them, I left another job after being assured that I had this job which both paid more and was in the field I studied. I walked all the way from my previous job to meet with the marketing manager and his secretary. I was given a contract to sign to be employed by the company, I was told everything was settled and I was even given a drug test which I of course passed, I was then told I could start on Monday only to be called two hours later ,I unfortunately missed the called so I was then emailed and told that I would not start on Monday as they had reviewed their employees and couldn't afford to take another person on. What changed in two hours that I was employed before and then suddenly they didn't have the funds for me? It also took weeks of back and forth emails to finally be told that from the marketing manager instead of getting evasive and garbage excuses from his secretary. It's just in very poor taste to get my hopes up like that and then suddenly change their mind. The marketing manager and his secretary also had a rotten attitude and talked down to me the whole time.
