Should you buy a Mahindra?

We purchased a new Mahindra TUV300 in 2017 and have now completed almost 100000km. Although it is no longer sold in SA, I think that my comments should be applicable to other Mahindra models.

Our Mahindra has many good points: # It is robustly built for Indian road conditions, and can therefore comfortably withstand our deteriorating SA roads. Our 5 y/o vehicle still feels very solid. # Although maybe a bit rough around the edges, they are excellent value for money. # Judging by many older Mahindras still on the roads, although they get a bit tatty they seem to keep on going. # You may disagree, but we like the quirky styling! # Mahindra seems to be in SA for the long haul;. # Our dealer was generally very helpful; servicing costs are very reasonable.

The major bad point: # The quality control in the factory appears to be lacking. We live on the humid KZN coast (5+kms from the sea) and recurring bodywork rust has been a big problem. Although vehicle rust at the coast used to be a major issue, most manufacturers have upped their game in recent years e.g. we also have an 11 y.o. Toyota Yaris that has ZERO body rust! So beware if you live at the coast, but in Gauteng you shouldn't have a problem.
