Lack of care for tenants/Dishonest
1. PARKING I went apartment hunting towards the end of August and from a friend's recommendation, I contacted Mafadi. I got assisted by Michael (Mike). We went to Rand Daily, didn't like what I saw then we went to Windmill House and I fell in love with a cute little bachelor. In our discussion, I was told there is ba*****t parking and the water billing is not bad. Trusting in this, I decided to go for the place. Paid my monies in time and I arrived at the Mafadi offices to sign my lease, only to be kept waiting by Michael for close to 30 minutes, even though I had told him my ETA. After signing my 6 months lease, I was given a paper to hand over to the caretaker of the building. Before I left the office, I asked why I didn't sign any papers for the parking bay and he assured me that the caretaker would have those papers for me to sign. When I arrived at the apartment building, the caretaker tells me he doesn't have any parking bays available. I was absolutely shocked at this deceit from Michael. I decided to move into the building either way due to my starting a new job in Joburg. I later called Michael to tell him the problem, he told me he would speak to the caretaker. 2 weeks later, nothing. I informed my insurer about my new address and due to the fact that I am parking in the street, my premium shot up by R500. I informed Michael about this and he ignored me. The next day I got a call from Emmanuel and he said I never told Michael I have a car, that's why a parking bay was never organised. Bulls***. A month later since I moved in and still no parking bay available. I have been hounding parking companies around CBD to find a safe place to park my car but no success. I speak to the caretaker every now and then in the hope that someone with a car is moving out soon so that I can grab that space. 2. WATER BILLING When I moved in on the 03rd of September 2017, the massive CBD power outage had just started but to my surprise I got a bill that amounted to R118 for hot water and R87 for cold water for 20 days. I went 10 days without hot water. I was suspicious about this billing because I have a friend who lives at Panama House with a roommate and the most he has paid for his water since he has moved in in July 2017 was R80. I queried this with Tendani from accounts. He reverted to say he has sent my query to Meter Mate. 2 days later, I sent a follow up email, no response. I call his cellphone, no answer. I send an sms and he only responded the next day telling me he has been off sick, I should just pay the amount due. It has been 4 days since that sms and still no word. If that was my bill for such a short period, I wonder what I will be paying this coming month.
I am extremely appalled at the lack of care for tenants and transparency in Mafadi's operations. There is so much more I want to say about the unit and the building itself but one can only type so much.
