Horrific service from MAC Pavilion

I visited the MAC counter inside Edgars at the Pavilion earlier today with my mother and was appalled by the terrible service I received from the make up artist Sean. He was rude, arrogant and very disrespectful.

My mum was in NEED of a new shade of foundation as her ***mentation had recently worsened. After waiting a few minutes for Sean (he was busy with other customers), I explained to him that I had spoken to him yesterday regarding the issue and he suggested she come in and try a few shades. He began with the application of the NC45 which was too light and her current shade NC50 was too dark. I requested he try another shade, NW44, which he did and said it was perfect. Both my mum and I felt the area around her eyes were still too dark and requested that he apply the foundation on the darkened area as well. He then proceeded to tell her that they do not put foundation around the eye due to the crease line and she should get a concealer. I explained to him that I personally apply my foundation around the eye area and do not have a problem. He refused to do it as according to him it was wrong. He also told her she can use her current concealer which was too dark (In my opinion this the choice of the client, whether it's the right or not). After explaining to him that her current conclear will not blend we were willing to try the concealer NW40. I use the same shade and when I told him he was persistent that this color will not work for me. (I have been using it for many years and have no problem with blending these shades). My mum was not happy as the eye area did not blend or cover well at all but he was again very persistent that it did. I told him I disagreed and I suggested applying a layer of foundation over it to blend the color evenly. Begrudgingly he did so. While my mum was deciding shades, and I asked to try the powder plus foundation in NC45. Sean app**** it and I requested the concealer be app**** as well. He did not do this so I had to do it on my own. My mum decided she was more or less in agreement with the foundation shade and wanted a powder as well. I asked for a powder only and not a combination with foundation. He brought a set-in powder and app**** it. My mum and I both felt it was too light. Sean said it was perfect and it works. I said I didn't like it and asked for the normal powder and he said there isn't any other. And that this powder just needed time to set in.

Having used MAC products for many years I have never needed a waiting period for my makeup to set in, which I tried to explain to him and once again said the color isn't blending with her natural skin tone. He then told us very rudely that he is the makeup artist and he knows best. I asked him what made him assume that I had never done a make up course and said that I would know how I prefer my makeup to set, but he very abruptly said it doesn't mean I know what I'm doing. My mum then said she would like to try another powder. With a lot of attitude he then brought sheer powder to apply (which he ealier said did not exist). He app**** the new powder without wiping off the old color and once again it did not blend. My boyfriend then met us and he also agreed the color was too light. Sean once again said the makeup needs time to set as the color will change and I completely disagreed based on my own personal experiences with the same product. He then threw the brush on the counter and walked away.

This kind of behavior is not acceptable. He did not offer any other suggestion or to help us any further. Other than his horrible service, I did not see any of the brushes being sanitized before applying the make up to her skin and within a few minutes she said was itchy. She had to wash it off when we got home half an hour later (please be aware she also uses MAC and has no issues with the product). I did ask to see the manager whom I was told was not in. Another very helpful make up artist was very apologetic and provided us with the store details. While obtaining these, she mentioned to Sean I was unhappy with the service and he said 'they can do what the want, I don't care'. These remarks were even more disappointing.

Being a loyal customer to MAC, I have never experienced such rude and disrespectful behavior and attitude from anyone in any of the MAC stores I have visited.

The most disappointing thing is that we were told that we are not makeup artists so we do not know how to apply makeup- If this is true then why is MAC sold to the general public who, in general, are not makeup artists? If that is the case then maybe I should consider another brand where I will be able to blend different shades myself at home!
