Refused to allow me to return defective earring.

I purchased a pair of cuff earrings for R180. When I tried them on at home The cuff part of the earring was too tight and hurt my ears which resulted in a headache. I went to Lovisa to return them and I knew they do not accept earring returns for hygiene reasons. I understood that, however, since the earring hurt me it was defective and they should allow me to return them because I cannot wear an earring that hurts me. They refused to refund me, the cashier was very rude and shouted at me "why did you buy them why did you buy them!!". The service is very poor at Lovisa regarding returns, as I loved the earring but could not wear them due to them being defective and resulting in hurting me. I feel they should have refunded me, but left me out of pocket instead and even told me "it would be a loss for them if they had to refund me since they could not resell the earring". I would think twice before purchasing again, especially expensive earrings which are not of quality.
