Looting money without shame - misleading advertising and faulty laptop

I recently purchased a HP Probook from loot.co.za.

First of all they placed a misleading adverti*****t about the product by stating it had a backlit keypad. I did them a favour to alert them to this which they acknowledged. I still decided to buy it because it is supposed to come with a long life battery. As it turned out this was also a LIE. Loot's technician apparently tested the battery by leaving the laptop in resting position. Any new laptop that is inactive with a STANDARD battery will survive for 12 hours or longer. It is not scientific way to test a battery life when the laptop is not in use.

I reported this to a lady named Michaela and she offered to let me return it. No mention of the ********* return policy at this stage. She also spoke to her manager to waive the return courier charge and it was agreed to return it at no cost. The return policy was only communicated AFTER my agreement with Michaela and long after I purchase it. This shows POOR business ethics, hence, they cannot be trusted to stick to their commitments.

The return was apparently inspected and the technician apparently found that the power button was loose. I did not report this as an issue as it was working fine and thought it was suppose to be like that. This means that loot actually supp**** me with a laptop with a faulty power bottom. We I asked the technician it they will be able sell the laptop he said yes. The product was not even referred back to loot's suppliers for inspection. This alone shows that the poor customer service and lack of interest in client satisfaction.

I then offered them to swap it for a Lenovo. No concession was made by loot, they insisted on the full rip-off handling fee of 15%. An easy buck for misleading advertising and a faulty power button!! I could sense the disappointment in Michaela’s voice when she advised that a free swap will not be granted. This, despite the fact that I assisted them to rectify the backlit keypad misleading adverti*****t!! Very, Very poor customers focus to say the least. It took loot more that 8 days after return they receiving the laptop to credit my account less the R900 handling fee. Michaela advised me that this because of backlogs. DISGRACEFULL!! Look like they have a loot of returns because of misleading advertising and poor customer satisfaction issues.

To add insult to injury I receive this so called apology from Che for implementing an unfair an ********* return policy!! But they will not reduce or refund the RIP-OFF handling fee!! How low can you still steep!!! They are claiming that they might lose R5000 on a product they advertised for more that R10 000 at one stage. How sick!

We subsequently spoke to Laura Seymour who is apparently a customer services manager. She advised that the faulty laptop will be referred to their supplier and revert back to me. This is what was expected initially in the interest of customers. I am still waiting for feedback!!

This product is again advertised for R5999. Be careful that loot does not supply you with a faulty product and deduct the handling fee if you return it!!

Loot probably respond with another apology and refer to the signup conditions. They clearly do not understand that an apology without sincere recompense is worthless and a source of further resentment to customers.

All in all my first experience and most probably last with loot was a BIG MISTAKE!!

Dear Mushtaq,

We are very sorry that you are unhappy with our service.

Of course, if an item is inherently faulty we will always refund our customers in full. We assure you that we will always do our best to duplicate the fault found.

Although we believed we had tested the item sufficiently ourselves, we were happy to submit the item to our suppliers for you, for their technicians to evaluate. Unfortunately, we are still waiting for this report but will be sure to provide you with feedback as soon as we can.

Charging a handling fee occurs when we receive returned goods that have been opened, so that we are unable to sell as new. We informed you of this by email, however it forms part of our standard returns policy, which is accessible on our website.

Kind regards,
Laura Seymour.
