WRONG DIAGNOSIS

I am 66 years of age and for many months I have been battling with severe spells of Dizziness, i.e. Vertigo which took me to a point where I was unable to operate as a normal human being. During one of these spells of dizziness I fell off a staircase and decided to seek help. Discovery Health gave permission for me to be admitted to Life Bay View Private Hospital in Mossel Bay during April 2019 where I spent three days undergoing extensive tests. X-Rays & MRI scans together with Eye Tests. I was placed on a drip, kept sedated and my bodily functions were monitored / recorded. As a novice I understand that the balance system of a human body resides in the ear but I was never referred to a Nose & Ear Specialist by my Doctor. Why didn’t I ask because my doctor (which by the way was very rude and busy) told my wife and me that he know best and we should trust them. So we as stupid human beings place our trust in doctors because they should know best. Save to say after three days I was discharged with the same condition still prevailing. The Specialists and Doctors simply did not know what was wrong with me! So I left the hospital totally desponded thinking that I would have to continue living with this condition because the learned Medical Practitioners were unable to diagnose my illness. Of one thing I am sure… The medical bill must have run into many Thousands of Rands. (This email was CC to Discovery Health). A month later still wheeling of dizziness I ran into a lady friend who works as a nurse / doctor in the Bahamas and I shared my dilemma with her. She looked at me and said I have BPPV. What is BPPV? Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo (BPPV) is one of the MOST COMMON CAUSES OF VERTIGO. The sudden sensation that you're spinning or that the inside of your head is spinning. Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo causes brief episodes of MILD TO INTENSE DIZZINESS. Now if this condition is one of the MOST COMMON causes of DIZZINESS / VERTIGO, why were these highly learned Doctors / Specialists unable to diagnose my problem? It took an ordinary nurse to point me in the right direction…! After having performed some very simple head and body movements, which I found on YouTube, my symptoms were almost gone. I have to continue with these exercises for another week. What a relieve but believe me what a huge disappointment in the so called medical world … Should doctors not know about this condition? Surely they studied medicine for 7 years…! Save to say I am highly disappointed in LIFE BAY VIEW HOSPITAL’s medical practitioners poor performance and inability to diagnose this BASIC illness. All I can say is shame on the Medical Profession who made significant money out of my condition but never provided a solution to a well-known simple problem. No other profession gets paid if they do not produce a solution to a problem but the MEDICAL PROFESSION does get paid and they get paid very well…! So with this email I express my Extreme Dissatisfaction with the treatment and results I got from three days at your hospital. I sincerely hope that this email be conveyed to all the medical staff so that the next patient who arrives at your hospital with the same symptoms receive the correct diagnosis and treatment.
