Patients frequently praise individual doctors, ward teams and maternity staff for compassionate, life changing clinical care, yet the dominant pattern is frustration with emergency waiting times, ward nursing consistency and, above all, hospital accounts. Customers consistently describe unpaid refunds, missing statements, coding errors and being handed to attorneys for amounts they believe were already settled.
Top Strengths:
- •Customer Service & Staff Quality: Named clinicians and specific wards draw heartfelt gratitude, with Ward I at Flora, Dr Dewa, maternity teams and even catering and cleaning staff singled out for compassion. Horrific Drs at life flora hospital.
I went to life flora hospital Saturday night at 23:45 as my son was sick and was not getting any better. The nurses were great but the Dr who attended us was an asshole. The manner of approach, the line of questioning and how he downplayed the whole situation and made me feel like I am overreacting. He basically made me feel stupid and *********** as a mother. I would never set foot again in that hospital.

Administrative incompetence as always
If I could score 0 I would because once again Life Mercantile doesn't disappoint when it comes to the lack of compentancy in their admin department. I was admitted via casualty on the 8th of August 2026 and had an emergency procedure on my leg. I was discharged on the 14th of August 2026. Claims notifications started coming in from the medical aid and they were paying from out of hospital benefit and I just thought they hadn't updated the authorization yet. Then a week later claims came in again but now they were paying from the correct benefit but were being short paid because my medical aid imposed a late notification penalty so I ask how because I was admitted via casualty. O was advised that the hospital requested the authorization a week after I was discharged. I called the hospital to advise that the medical aid wants proof that they did try to submit the authorization request prior to the 19th which is the date it was actually obtained. The lady who turns out is not even the case manager for my authorization said she would send it to the medical aid and provide feedback. She called me about 3 days later saying its sorted and I should follow up with the medical aid. In my mind I'm like if its sorted why must I follow up only to find nothing is sorted. I called her again and advised its not sorted and she gave me a ***. I called the medical aid the *** and it was sent to the relevant department for review. 2 weeks past and I see my claims are still being short paid. I followed up with the medical aid and they told me the review was declined as the document provided was not sufficient and they sent the request to the hospital 2 weeks ago for more proof and they haven't received it. The agent tried to call the case manager who is dealing with this case and could not get hold of them. I have also been trying to contact the same case manager for 2 weeks and they never answer the phone. Now the hospital has the audacity to send me a bill of R37000 for the shortfall for their incompetence. What makes me more angry is the fact that while I was in hospital instead of focusing on my recover I had asked multiple times regarding my authorization, I even requested to speak to the case manager regarding my authorization but they never came to speak to me instead passed messages to me via the nurse which is not what I wanted because I was avoiding this very issue. I'm still recovering from my accident and now I have to deal with your mess. Can some one that actually knows how to do their job at Mercantile please contact me because not only are they sending me bills but so are other providers.

Extremely Disappointing Service from Life Healthcare's Accounts Department – Two Months and Still No Refund
Title: Extremely Disappointing Service from Life Healthcare's Accounts Department – Two Months and Still No Refund My experience with Life Healthcare's Accounts Department has been incredibly frustrating and disappointing. For approximately two months, I have been going back and forth with various members of the accounts team regarding a refund that is rightfully owed to me, yet the matter remains unresolved despite my repeated attempts to get it sorted out. During this period, I have sent multiple emails, provided proof of payment (POP), and followed up numerous times to ensure that the team has all the necessary information to trace the payment and process my refund. Despite all these efforts, I have received no satisfactory resolution. Instead, I have been passed between different people, with my emails seemingly being ignored and no one taking proper ownership of the matter. I have communicated with Navern Kaas, Vasthie Naicker, Lerato Mugumo, Lamees Goeiman and Avril Govender. Unfortunately, despite engaging with all these individuals, I am still no closer to receiving my money. It is extremely concerning that I have had to spend two months chasing a refund while repeatedly providing the information needed to resolve the issue. What makes this experience even more disappointing is the apparent double standard. When a patient owes a hospital money, the accounts department is quick to issue bills and follow up on outstanding payments. However, when the hospital owes a patient money, getting that money back seems to become an endless struggle. Why should a patient have to send countless emails and chase multiple people for a refund that should have been dealt with already? This entire experience has left me feeling disregarded, frustrated and deeply disappointed in the way Life Healthcare handles its accounts and treats its patients. The lack of communication, accountability and urgency is unacceptable. I have reached a point where I can no longer continue going around in circles with the same department. I intend to escalate this matter through the appropriate channels and will consider seeking legal assistance if necessary. I should not have to resort to such measures simply to recover money that belongs to me. I am calling on Life Healthcare's management to intervene urgently, investigate this matter and ensure that my refund is processed without any further unnecessary delays. I also expect a clear explanation for why this matter has remained unresolved for approximately two months despite my repeated follow-ups and submission of proof of payment. Patients deserve to be treated with respect, fairness and professionalism, including when dealing with billing and refunds. At this stage, my experience with Life Healthcare's Accounts Department has fallen far short of those expectations. I hope this complaint finally prompts the organisation to take my concerns seriously and resolve this matter.

Not attentive, rude, impatient.
This hospital service is terrible at Life Crompton Hospital!!! The nurses are impatient, rude and get upset when you ask for assistance on behalf of your family, who is their patient. They don't attend to patient swiftly, when you press the bell they take a long time and don't attend to patients the way they need to. They did not notify us as her family when they were taking her to another hospital for a scan. When we enquire we get short responses with attitude. They don't show care to their patients. We had to brush my aunt's teeth because they did not do it that day. My aunts couldn't really feed herself well after her surgery, they left her to have food left on her clothes, not aiding in removing any left over dirt. There are only a few nurses that attend to you and don't have attitude. The rest of the nurses, specifically the day time shift and the cleaners are careless.

Poor experience at Life Flora
My husband was admitted to hospital by Dr. Ferande Peters at Life Flora Hospital on 28 September following a consultation related to clearance for a biopsy. We were advised that his heart valve appeared to be narrowing and that further investigations were necessary. An MRI was initially recommended and later changed to a CT scan. After four days in hospital, a scope procedure was scheduled. My husband fasted for the entire day in preparation, only to be informed later that the scan had been misinterpreted and that the procedure was not required. He was subsequently discharged. This experience caused considerable stress and anxiety for our family. We believe there was poor communication regarding the investigations and treatment plan, and we are concerned about the impact of the apparent misinterpretation of the scan on the care provided.
