UTTERLY DISGUSTED - FLORA CLINIC - A NIGHTMARE
On Monday 12 March 2018 I took my fiance to Flora Clinic Casualty at around 11pm. He injured his knee while playing soccer and needed medical attention. We were told that the casualty section was extremely full and there would be a bit of a waiting period. We opted to wait seeing as how we lived literally 5 minutes away. We were told to open a file and shown to a waiting room. We were given a yellow colour sticker which meant that his injury was not life threatening. Meaning that should another patient with a more serious injury came in and needed medical attention, my fiance would have to wait. We waited in the waiting room for 2 hours and was finally shown to a bed in the casualty ward. We waiting another 30 minutes before the dr came to consult with him. We were then sent to the xray department at 1:30am Tuesday morning. A porter was called and we were taken to the Xray department at 2am. We were then sent back to the casualty ward where we had to wait for another 45 minutes before the dr could have a look at the xrays. We were then sent home at 3am saying nothing was broken but we had to come back later in the morning for an ultrasound. Once that was completed at about 11am the next morning, we were taken back to the casualty section. This time, a new file had to be opened and once again we were informed that should you fall into a category that did not require urgent medical attention, there would be a bit of a waiting period. To be honest, we passed 6 beds which were empty. There were supposedly two doctors on call. Yet the waiting room was once again filled with people all there, just waiting! The receptionist asked me to put down our details to leave the medical aid card with him and he would open a file. 30 minutes later, I went to check why he was taking so long to open a file? Low and behold, he forgot about us. The nurses and staff on duty have this dont care attitude. They walk around with no urgency, they laugh and flirt and fix their damn hair extentions instead of taking proper and quicker care of patients. After storming back from the receptionist with an open file now available, we waiting another hour. All the while, ppl just streaming in and taking a seat, waiting to be checked. For a private clinic the service is pathetic. Worse than a government institution. After listening to the numerous nurses chatting away and laughing, I eventually asked one if there were any dr's available as we were sitting there for hours waiting for a dr to check the ultrasound and advise what treatment my fiance required. She eventually found the file that had taken forever to open. We were told we were "next in line" Then another nurse walked in to explain how the stickers worked. If you were a patient requiring urgent medical attention, you would get a red sticker, then orange, then yellow and finally green. All the while noting that should someone with a more critical need arrive they would go before you! Seriously? Is there no better way to deal with patients in a private clinic? The service is pathetic, the nurses are even worse. They do a job not cos they care and want to take care of people, cos it pays the bills. I had to scream, fight and shout to get someones attention and only then did a Dr arrive and have a look at my fiance. It took all of 10 minutes for him to look at the ultrasound, diagnose him and give him meds. And still we did not feel convinced of the diagnosis he gave us. We were told to go back today for a check up and guess what, this time he received a green sticker! Stuck in the waiting room for 3 hours then taken to a bed and still waited for a further hour! Why can our healthcare institutions not provide better, more efficient healthcare? Can someone do something about this pathetic service!?????
