Unrivalled Care and Empathy

My husband brought my son to Netcare Bougainville hospital yesterday morning at around 10am with a suspected dislocated or broken leg. He was in incredible pain. My husband asked for help getting my son out of the car as he could not do it alone. He was very snottily informed that staff can not assist with this because if the staff member is injured outside of the hospital building they would not be compensated. They gave him a wheelchair so that he could wheel my son into casualty once he figured out how to get a 14 year old screaming boy into a wheelchair unassisted. A nurse finally with a lot of attitude sauntered out of the building and kept saying 'you must hope I don't get hit by a car'. Instead of going to the car to assist she stood beside an ambulance instead. I brought my mother 2 years ago and I was promptly assisted to get her out of the car and into a wheelchair so I was quite baffled and it didnt make sense to me. I phoned and spoke to a lady working at the desk in casualty. She snootily informed me that staff may not assist because if they get injured they would not be compensated. She then FURTHER said to me - "If he needs help getting my son out of the car how did he get him into the car then" !!!!!!!!????????????? REALLY????? He was collected from school and 2 male teachers helped my husband. He then took him to Life Eugene Marais then where the staff AND security rushed to help my husband. Oh and guess what. My son has a fractured femur. At Eugene Marais they put him straight onto a bed from the car not even in a wheelchair. My husband was assisted promptly in a professional, sympathetic and efficient manner. He could not stop raving about how good the staff there are. I would like to express our deepest, most heartfelt thanks and gratitude to the security guards at casualty/emergency, the 2 nurses who assisted in getting my son out of the car as painlessly as possible, the gentleman at reception (Stephan Erasmus) ho was so helpful and followed up and helped my husband be helped as soon as possible. Also to the staff in radiology who assisted with the x-rays of a screaming child with compassion and patience, and to a female doctor named Marike or Maryke or Marelise(sorry I wasnt there and I can not remember her name) and then lastly to Dr Louise Engelbrecht for her treatment of my son. Be assured that everyone we know, as well as all media and social media platforms will be informed of the incredible level of patient care received at this first class hospital.
