Unprofessional behaviour of Nurses at the Emergency Unit

I am writing to express my deep dissatisfaction with the treatment and care provided by the nurses at the trauma unit during my recent illness. I believe it is important to bring to your attention the unprofessional and uncaring behavior that I experienced during my time under their care.

On 13-12-2023 I was rushed by ambulance to your esteemed hospital seeking medical assistance since I was having stroke symptoms. While I understand that working in a fast-paced and high-stress environment can be challenging, the conduct of the nurses towards me was nothing short of mistreat and uncompassionate.

Firstly, I was dismayed by the lack of empathy shown by the nurses towards my condition. They appeared rushed, inattentive, and dismissive of my concerns. Instead of treating me with the care and compassion that one would expect in such a vulnerable state, they demonstrated a clear lack of understanding and failed to address my needs adequately. I was in a very bad state, although I was very ill but I can remember that my body was shutting which I was slightly unconscious.

There were 2 if not 3 African(black) nurses that exhibited a lack of courtesy, often ignoring my requests for assistance. Moreover, they seemed more absorbed in their personal conversations and gossip than in providing genuine care and support to the patients within their charge. I was at bed no 3 on that day and I do have a witness who had seen how badly I was treated which was the Paramedic that brought me in.

One of the nurses when I was rushed in rudely removed the oxygen from my face stating that I didn't need it although I could feel that I was running short of breath, I unfortunately don't remember their names but might remember their faces, they were on day shift on the 13th of December 2023. This not only prolonged my discomfort but also eroded my trust in the medical staff responsible for my well-being. Fortunately I was treated well during my admission at Ward 2 bed no 206.

Considering the significant impact that the nurses' behavior had on my overall experience at your hospital, I find it imperative that you investigate this matter promptly. While I understand that these issues may not be representative of your entire nursing staff, the severity of my experience warrants a thorough review and appropriate measures to ensure that such behavior is not repeated in the future.

It is my sincere hope that you take this complaint seriously and address the problems within your nursing department. Patients, like myself, place their trust in healthcare professionals during times of vulnerability, hoping to receive compassionate care. Regrettably, my encounter with the nurses in the trauma section left me feeling neglected and disheartened. As a result, I am still traumatized by that day as that was a near death experience for me.

I kindly request a written response outlining the steps taken to investigate and rectify this matter. Additionally, I would appreciate details regarding any appropriate disciplinary actions that have been or will be implemented to prevent the recurrence of such unprofessional behavior.

In closing, I implore you to take this complaint seriously and make necessary improvements to ensure that all patients, regardless of their circumstances, receive the high-quality care they deserve.
