Theft Life Mount Edgecombe Hospital

Dear Hospital Management at Life Mount Edgecombe

I am writing to lodge a formal complaint regarding a serious security breach and the alarming lack of security measures at the hospital.

I was ****** of my cellphone while standing inside the hospital premises by individuals in a vehicle exiting the hospital. This incident occurred at approximately 18:30, and since reporting it, I have received no meaningful feedback or reassurance regarding the incident or what actions are being taken.

What is deeply concerning is that this incident has highlighted major security failures within the facility. There appears to be inadequate or no visible security presence at the entrance and exit points of the parking area, at reception, and even in vulnerable areas such as the Paeds ward. This is unacceptable for a private medical facility where patients, staff and visitors should reasonably expect safety and protection.

My concern extends beyond the theft of my phone. If ********s were able to commit a ******* within hospital premises so brazenly, one must ask what prevents individuals from entering female wards, maternity wards or paediatric wards and causing physical harm to vulnerable patients. This is not merely a theft issue — it is a serious patient safety risk.

I was further informed that a vehicle was recently ****** from the parking area and that other staff members have also had cellphones ******. Most concerning, the response from the Security Manager was that this is an “ongoing” issue involving daylight ******ies. If management is aware of recurring ******** incidents and adequate preventative measures have not been implemented, this raises serious concerns regarding security negligence.

I have also been advised that SAPS has been notified. However, if ******** activity is ongoing and nothing meaningful is being done to protect staff, patients and visitors — nor are victims being assisted or losses addressed — then the message being conveyed is that individuals entering the hospital should provide or pay for their own security, which is unreasonable and unacceptable in a private facility for which we pay.

I request urgent written feedback on the following:

* What immediate actions are being taken regarding my reported *******;

* What security measures are being implemented to prevent further incidents;

* What steps are being taken to protect patients, staff and visitors in vulnerable wards and common areas;

* Whether management intends to review accountability for these repeated security failures.

This matter is serious and requires urgent intervention, not only regarding my incident but regarding the broader safety risks posed to everyone on hospital premises.

I trust management will treat this with the urgency it deserves and provide a prompt response.

Kind regards
