Terrible , ********** Hospital stay ! Paeds ward @ Life Eugene Marias

What a terrible and ********** experience at Life Eugene Marias hospital! My son came with an ambulance after difficulty breathing , arrived at the hospital +/- 04:40 , the trauma unity staff on duty on the 26 March was really helpful and helped my son so much , they were friendly attended to him asap ! Shifts changed at 7am and this was the beginning of my nightmare . At 07:30 we already knew my son was being admitting and diagnosis was given , dr requested he be put on oxygen but the staff on duty put it in his nostrils and obviously a 7month old pulled it out , the one nurse came to say they need to cellotape it so he doesn’t pull it ! They did not do that , we were waiting and I asked what the delay was , my son only got a bed around 13:30 at this point I was irritated because they said there were no delays.

We got to Paeds ward , admission was done . Then I was asked about his formula consumption the times and ml . I indicated and requested a bottle for 4pm it did not come , I requested again and still that milk did not come after giving them his formula and bottle .

At night the drip machine kept beeping and flashing an orange light and eventually red light ( after one of the nurses explained to me the light must always be green ) when I saw an orange light I ringed for help , and eventually the one sister said to me argh just leave it .

The morning when shifts change , the new nurses sees my son’s foot is swollen and I explained what happened at night , she was shocked and told me it was wrong of the other nurses to do that ! The unit manager was just randomly doing her rounds and asked if all is well I narrated the story to her oh my was she not explaining to me from a point of underestimating me you could tell in her posture and tone ! At this point I’m over this hospital!!

Later they take my son to try put in the drip because he’s a chubby baby they struggle , and the one nurse comes and says let me call dr and il give you feedback , she did not come with feedback I had to go and ask her after almost an hour and she’s irritated that I’m holding her accountable to her words and I can see she’s making expressions that I’m being a nuisance ! This is a child’s life and I need to know what’s happening .

Come lunch time , I ordered lunch it doesn’t come ! , I do a follow up they tell me they forgot and tell me what I initially ordered is finished they give me another option . Okay I take it . For breakfast my 7month old baby was given option of porridge only whilst others had oats as an option . For lunch others have veggies options my son only has option of puree and purity !

The following morning breakfast is served late and the other kids in the ward breakfast is delivered and my sons isn’t? At this point I feel victimised and will never recommend this hospital to anyone and I’m seeking channels to report this ********** stay at the hospital ! It’s frustrating enough to have a sick child and be in an environment that hostile .

2024 I delivered my baby girl at Life Wilgers and wow wow wow ! The service delivery and staff there was outstanding and hence 2025 I returned back to the same hospital to have my son delivered. And trust me they didn’t drop the standard ! Reason I didn’t go there this time around is because my baby’s paediatrician is this side ! I regret every minute coming here ! And after I read the reviews I am affirmed this hospital has dropped its standards immensely so !
