Queenstown Private Hospital Account/Claim unresolved
My father (Mcebisi Nelson Mpalala, admission number 187597) was admitted to Queenstown Private Hospital on the 27 May 2022 due to broken arm. Private doctor from Elliot referred him there. Upon arrival scan were done and thereafter operation was done. The next morning he was discharged. He was a member of Bonitas Medical aid authorisation no. ***2. To cut the story short, this year it came to my attention that hospital account was not settled because medical did not pay. The amount owed to the hospital +R73k. I did not understand. In March 2024 so in order for me get clarity or assitance, I had to come down from Durban to Queenstown. When I arrived at the hospital, at first the reception person was not happy to assist, I had to force her so she can look at her computer and pulled history of my fathers account. It was confirmed that +R73k is owed and the account has been handed over to the lawyers. I was told to phone Bonitas which I did. Bonitas said claim was not paid because the hospital did not send the motivational letter to review PMB. The motivation was suppossed to be done by Dr N. Tyumre. So I relayed the message to the receptionist. She said I must go to Dr Tyumre's office. I told her this is very strange because my father met with Dr Tyumre in hospital in my view the hospital is supposed liaise wuth him. But she insisted that I go to his office across the road, I went, I told them that hospital sent us to request the motivation, they were shocked as I am. But they agreed to do it and sent to Bonitas. After few days I followed up Bonitas, they authorisation no. ***2 was approved but some codes were incorrect so payment cannot be done. I then phone the hospital this time I spoke with the case manager Mellissa Stone. I told her that Bonitas cannot make payment because if yhe incorrect codes. She said the codes were correct. She sent an ema to Bonitas and I have requested to be copied on all emails. Few days were pass, I phoned Bonitas again now the said everything is aporoved, the hospital must send a claim so that oayment can be processed. I informed Mellissa via email and requested her to advise the lawyers to stop harrasing us. But the response was that unfortunately the lawyers will stop until payment is received. My question: Is it the patient's fault if the hospital did not do what they are supposed to be doing. In this if the case hospital did not request the motivation to review PMB from the operating doctor. Instead of doing what they supposed to do they handed my father to the lawyer and turn the old person's life up side down. Above all of this my father does not +R73k to pay.
