Poor service in Maternity Ward

The events that occurred were dismal and surely aggravating to force me to type this complaint.

I had taken my wife to the maternity ward on the 07/07/2019 around 09.00 am. When we approached the nurses station, they nurses response was “what is wrong now?”. This was not out of sympathy but rather them being rude. During my wifes stay, she had to keep reminding the nurses to check her sugar levels has she was previously diagnosed with gestational diabetes. Each time her meal arrived she had to keep calling the nurses to check her sugar and they would respond to say they are coming just now. At one point on the 10/07/2019 my wife complained to them about severe heart burn and they said they would come back, no one came back to her, my wife then walked to the kitchen and took milk from the nurses fridge herself. During her stay, she was advised she had pains due to a kidney stone. On the 10/7/2019, my wife was visited by Dr Maphalela who advised she was having contractions, prior to this my wife had complained to the nurses about the pain and nothing was done. The gyne had shouted at a nurse to ask how did they not know she was having contractions and why was it not managed. The gyne instructed the nurse to complete an internal exam, my wife kept asking the nurses when they would do it and they kept saying just now. At about 10.30 to 11.00 am my wife walked to the nurses station requesting the exam be done and was told by one of the nurses that “she is not in pain and she wants her to put her fingers up her, but you always here and nothing’s wrong with you” In any event, the internal exam was not done, the gyne returned around 13.30- 14.00 and advised an emergency c section will be done.

Please bear in mind we are a young couple who had our first baby and knew nothing!

After baby was born, he was monitored and changed and given to me to take to my wife, we had advised that she will be breast feeding. A bottle milk was given just incase, but no nurse saw to my wife or came and explained what to do or how to do it. The baby was just given to us and we was trying to do the best we could. When the night shift nurses came, I advised no one has explained anything on how to feed him via breast or bottle or how much he needs to drink or how frequently. And the golden advise I got was to force him. Thanks!

THE HIGHLIGHT OF IT ALL WAS EXPERIENCED BY A NURSE NAMED PRECIOUS. She has no sympathy, care, etiquette or any notable act of compassion to be working in the Maternity ward.

On Thursday night my wife informed her that the babies nose was yellow and his tongue was also yellow. Precious’ responses are always rude. She just said to my wife that she will not keep the baby for her and he is fine! To no ones surprise, the peadatrition came on the morning of the 12/07/2019 to advise the baby had jaundice and needed to be under UV light.

On Friday the baby was in the nursery and just after 7 my wife went to see him, she informed Precious the baby had ****ed and needed to be changed. She responded to my wife saying well Gogo just changed him and he must finish **** then he will be changed. I returned with my wife to see my son at around 8.30 pm. Precious entered the nursery with a cup of tea or whatever she was drinking. Straggling her legs through the door and saying to us “ohhh yourl came and woke the child up cause he was fast asleep when I left.” She then said well yourl must take him back with yourl and only bring him back if he is fast asleep.

The maternity ward shows no sense of emergency, kindness nor care. I would have received the very same treatment should I have been in a government hospital.
