Poor service at Life Groenkloof Hospital
My daughter was recently admitted to the Life Groenkloof Hospital 7th December 2024. Unfortunately, our experience was far from satisfactory, particularly with the nursing staff in both ER and the wards. It seems they have forgotten about their core competencies, such as compassion, commitment, and communication. They often disappeared for extended periods without checking on her, delayed in providing feedback, and displayed irritability when asked questions. At one point, she was informed she would be transferred to another hospital due to a lack of available beds. However, there was no clear plan of action, leading to confusion among the nursing staff. This situation delayed essential tests, such as the CT scan, as her medical aid could only cover the costs upon admission. During this period, her infection and viral load were alarmingly high.
When she was finally admitted, there were three empty beds in the ward, yet she was again transferred to a single bed in the next ward the following day. Where did these beds suddenly come from? This inconsistency was both confusing and frustrating.
Despite these issues, I would like to commend Dr. Emma Bryant for her decisive action and professionalism. She provided excellent care and stood out in an otherwise disappointing experience. I would also like to thank porters and catering staff for their pleasant disposition. The rest of the nursing staff should undergo a refresher course to revisit the principles of their nursing pledge.
