Pathetic performance at trauma unit

My daughter Christelle who is 21 years old Was at the verge of kidney failure (which she never had any kidney issues before this) due to the incompetence of doctors and staff at the trauma unit in Mount Edgecombe hospital.

On 27 October 2023, Christelle had been taken to the Mount Edgecombe hospital via an ambulance due to her being unable to walk as she had immense amount of pain in her lower back The doctors had taken bloods, and had later diagnosed her with peptic ulcers and foecal overload, which they administered anema and had sent her home. She believed that she felt better and continued about her day until Saturday afternoon had started feeling the same pain at her lower back that she felt the day before. By Sunday the pain became more intense, and then went back to the same hospital. The doctor, Dr Sajeel Maharaj who had seen her on Friday, had not mentioned that her kidney levels were very low which her (efrg was 33)on Friday,and had done bloods again on Sunday, and did not mention again that her levels dropped further to 22 on Sunday. Due to her being new to a medical aid, she had no waiting period or restrictions, yet they had turned her away again and referred her to Mahatma Ghandi hospital. Being in incredible pain, she came back home, and thinking that authorisation was all they needed and kept speaking about instead of ensuring she was in stable condition, I decided to take her back to the hospital to not only get answers as to why they refused to do anything about her kidneys but what was needed for her to get the proper treatment. Each time they sent her home, they gave her blood results, which I do not understand why they did not care to read it, let alone treat her kidneys or look for some way to help her. By Sunday evening , I had taken my daughter back to the hospital. By then she already had a high temperature and was feeling very cold in the car. I had spoken to a nurse at the trauma unit, and since she could not give me any answers, had referred me to Dr Sajeel Maharaj. After asking him why he had not treated the kidneys, he said that it was normal, which had me confused as I would expect a doctor to know better as to what is normal, and what is not. He had also told me about the Authorization that was needed to admit her. I begged him to see to her as she was shaking in the car due to a temperature she had. He then asked a nurse to bring her in, which the nurse told him, she would get the night staff, as her shift was over. I proceeded to go outside and wheeled my daughter into the trauma unit instead of waiting for help. Her temperature had been over 37 and they had given paracetamol via drip for her fever to come down. I had then spoken to the doctor again and asked him what was needed to be done, as her condition was deteriorating and no one was doing anything He told me to ask the personale what the amount is for CT scan Which by after 9pm on Sunday night, she had been taken for the scan, provided I had to pay over R5000 cash for it. A Dr Masikanga that had been on night shift informed me that her structural abdomin was normal and that I had to make an appointment with a physician in hospital to investigate the functionality of the abdomen I did not understand why they would take it so lightly especially after knowing what her kidney levels were sitting at. I asked him why I couldn't just see a nephrologist, to which he responded by saying, it's not necessary. They had given me a script that the medication she needed to have which came to over R1000 which did not help her at all The next morning, I had contacted a Dr J Moodleys rooms who is well known nephrologist and explained to his receptionist Ash the situation I'm in and asked her what I should do, as I could see the state my daughter was in. She was becoming lifeless. She told me she would inform the doctor and will advise me. I then proceeded to take her to Dr C Koobair who is Christelle's Gp at the hospital. She had come to the car to examine her as she was too weak to walk. Dr Koobair, said I should take her back to trauma and get her admitted. I had to go through the whole drama again with trying to get the doctors to understand that if there is issues with medical aid, we would pay upfront, just so my daughter doesn't die. To my surprise, the authorization had been given on Sunday, but. No one took the Initiative to follow up or call them to get answers.. Yet I had to go through hell on Sunday night and still be turned away. IT is only by the grace of God, my daughters kidneys did not fail.. And that under the request of Dr Moodley rooms to see her, that she is still alive. Monday afternoon, the authorization came through which the case manager at the hospital had said was assisting to help authorization to go through. After I had given her the authorization number, she said it was dated for Sunday, which infuriated me as we were not only turned away but was referred to government hospital.. Without any effort to help in such a serious case.
