Pathetic patient care at Entabeni Hospital

<p>My dad has been admitted at Life Entabeni hospital for the last three weeks for complications arising from his renal dialysis.</p> <p> Being admitted firstly to the surgical ICU unit and then to General ICU. I'm am sad to say that my family and I have been disgusted by the level of care and compassion shown not only to my dad but to other patients aswell. The stubbornness by so called "Sisters" and "in charge sisters" amazes me. Why get into this profession when they clearly have no passion for it? Yes ,my dad has had multiple complications with various Dr's overseeing him but the basic care needed in these wards where not being adhered to. My dad has a sore on the back and when questioning a nurse who had jus come on night shift , her respouse is, "I don't know". Same goes for the bruising on his arm and back. Nobody wants to give you can give information when questioned while some prefer to just shift the responsibility. Upon complaining to the night Super one nurse responded in her native tongue that she does not care as she can earn a R25000 salary anywhere. Even Dr's warned against victimisation by staff in the wards if we complained. My dad is now afraid to complain as he was vigorously questioned by a nurse why he had complained. Taking our complaints to higher management only resulted in him being transferred to General ICU where the care is none the better. Simple things like pressure treatment not being done for a patient who had been in bed for 3 weeks. </p> <p> </p> <p>We have 3 qualified nurses in the immediate family , all of them Sisters. All shocked at the level of care in the ICU units at this facility. I work in medical industry , so I'm well aware of the various routes that I can take to take this facility up. We are in process of consulting with other Dr's and bust arranging a transfer to a smaller hospital where we have never received such dispicable treatment and staff arrogance. </p> <p>If Entabeni hospital management really care then this should be investigated to the fullest. </p>
