No response to severe complaint and enquiry.

Good day, I have sent the following letter to Aneleen de Waal at Life Peglarae with no response as well as Life Healthcare complaints with no response as well. No one seems to care to respond so I am forced to place this here.

I hope this letter finds you well. I am writing to formally bring to your attention a serious incident that occurred at Peglarae on January 28, 2024, involving my wife, who was admitted for a hysteroscopy and laparoscopy.

Upon admission, my wife explicitly informed the attending nurse that she is allergic to Tramacet and Tramadol. This information should also be reflected in her medical file. When she was later transferred to the maternity ward, she once again informed the nurse on duty of her allergy to the before-mentioned medications. Despite this, she was still administered the medication.

At approximately 20:30, while I was by her side, my wife suffered a severe seizure. She lost consciousness, exhibited uncontrolled movements, turned blue, and completely passed out. I immediately called for assistance, and while the nursing staff responded promptly, there was a significant delay in locating the appropriate resuscitation equipment. It took several minutes before a nurse was able to retrieve the necessary equipment from another ward. Fortunately, after prolonged efforts, my wife was stabilized.

I am concerned about the circumstances surrounding this incident. I respectfully request a formal report explaining why this occurred and whether it could have been prevented. Additionally, I would appreciate if the emergency room doctor who attended to my wife could have provided some form of communication to me as her husband. It was highly distressing to witness such a critical situation without any explanation or reassurance from the attending physician. A simple acknowledgment or update on her condition would have significantly alleviated my concerns.

Furthermore, I was extremely disheartened by the behavior of some nurses following the incident. They were laughing and speaking loudly about their difficulty in locating the necessary equipment. Given the gravity of the situation, I found this behavior to be highly inappropriate and unprofessional, especially as my wife remained in a vulnerable state.

From my perspective, I genuinely feared for my wife’s life during those critical moments. Clear communication from medical professionals and a more sensitive approach from the nursing staff would have made a considerable difference in managing the trauma I experienced. I trust that you will take this matter seriously and ensure that necessary steps are taken to prevent such occurrences in the future.
