I'm a new father. Me and my girlfriend are devastated first time parents. Our daughter was born at Life Wilgeheuwel Hospital on 2019/12/14 at 9:17am and she was born at a weight of 1.990kg with a length of 43,5cm at 37w 2d gestational age. She was born with a quite well health condition. Unfortunately she had to directly go to the neonatal intensive care unit for further treatment. She had to gain weight and reach 2kg's at least to be discharged. Thereafter she must manage to be able to suck her bottles finished & efficiently without getting tired out, lose weight, lose interest or leaving any milk in the bottle excl. of 5ml or less is fine. This was all going on for 3 weeks up until 2020/1/8. We traveled to the hospital as usual from the house to go visit her for the day in the NICU like any other day just hearing what the doctor said, what her progress is looking like ect. We were nearing a discharge of roughly over the weekend of 11-13 Jan and then on the arrival of our visit on 8 January 2020 16:30pm we received terrible, devastating, heartbreaking & just horrible news. They explained to us at 1:30pm the nurse was struggling alot to soothe her and usually she is difficult but eventually calms down. The nurse's best option was to undress her and give her a bath to soothe her. This is when a devastating discovery was made by the nurse on shift caring for our daughter that day. She saw her right arm all swollen up so bad that she yelled for the Unit Manager that works in the NICU to come and look. The unit manager then decided to do an immediate x-ray of her chest to be able to see her upper body incl. her right arm, left arm and chest. There the terrible news was found her upper - right arm was broken without any explanation up until now the orthopedic surgeon saw us at 16:30 upon our arrival and explained for now the arm gets splint to align it. The doctor (her pediatrician treating her weight and feeding) which was her first reason for being placed in NICU saw us this morning 9 January 2020 8:10am on his rounds and talked to us as well. He explained to us medically what causes are possible and based on the x-ray it doesn't appear that she has any brittle bone at all. This leaves us with the only explanation being that she was treated wrong or mishandled in such way that she suffered from this fractured arm. Note* we left the hospital on 7 January 2020 11am after feeding her and she was in a healthy, stable and pain free condition then we arrived the next day receiving this terrible news. This hospital broke her arm whether it was deliberately or accidental under their supervision it remains their fault.
