Life Poortview Hospital Worst Patient Service

I have a complaint against Life Poortview Hospital, as well as some of the staff members.

I was admitted to Poortview on 9 January and checked out on 16 January 2019 .

During my stay at Poortview, I continually saw patients that was drugged to the point where they struggled to walk by themselves. These patients would often fall down, miss a chair when trying to sit, and there was one girl who passed out whilst walking outside. She fell on her glass mug on the pavement, and cut herself in 2 places. After waiting for nursing staff to assist, they simply slapped a plaster on and let her go. Her own mother had to fetch her the following day, and had to take her to another doctor who stitched her in both places. It is gross negligence on behalf of Poortview medical staff who assisted her in the 1st place.

In addition to this, patients are allowed to have glass mugs, which causes a massive safety risk for themselves, and other patients, as any one could break their mug, slid their wrists or even another patient. Patients have access to the metal staircase outside the building, loads of glass in the form of windows etc., and there is no control to protect patients from committing suicide.

There are no security staff or medical staff in the outside area where at least 30 - 40% of all patients gather to socialize. When I was at Poortview, ****ography was sent around, there were MANY racial slurs in front of patients of another race, talk of ******* drugs and other activities that is against policy.

Whilst in Poortview, I saw Dr Caren van Wyk as my psychiatrist, and have tried to get a follow-up appointment with her since I was booked out of hospital, but to no avail. I have mailed her rooms numerous times, phoned her rooms numerous times, and sent her a personal message to get assistance. I was on the verge of a relapse, and Dr Caren van Wyk simply did not get back to me. I was in a bad mental state, and had NO follow-up support! It is totally unacceptable. On top of this, neither my psychologist nor physiothe****** showed for our last sessions!
